A WARNING TO THOSE WHO HAVENT SEEN IT

This has been mentioned by others on this page before, but I felt another voice needed to be added to this side of the argument for what is obviously, although somewhat surprisingly, a divisive film.

This film is VERY DISTURBING, and for some (myself included) you may wish you hadn't watched it. I'm not going to get into the argument of if this is a good or a bad film, or discuss the music, or the character development, or if this is art designed to make you think. I just want people to know before watching it that this film is dominated (almost exclusively) by scenes of misogyny, mental and physical torture, abuse and rape. This is the point I wish to make, and I'm not commenting on the merits of these scenes, just that they're the overarching theme. So if you don't wish to watch 2 hours of that kind of thing, then don't watch this film, like I said, I wish I hadn't.

And just to explain myself a little, I have no problem with horror, torture, gore, and most other staples of these kinds of films. But, and this is just a personal thing, the one thing that I can't watch is violence against women. It's not that I've ever had to deal with this in my life (I'm male, and had a fairly normal upbringing) but it's just something that's always made me sick to my stomach...I don't know why. And needless to say this movie made me feel the same way. So this is why I'm writing this. If you aren't prepared to watch a lot of degradation and violence against women, DON'T WATCH THIS FILM.

Why are ppl so hyper-sensitive about this movie? It IS NOT that bad or disturbing, it's a god horror film!!

Do guys like "the thing"?
They like it better than no thing.

But I think this film is not just about man and woman persé, it's about the fact that the woman, who is 'wild' and 'savage', not unlike the 'dog sister'being more human and humane than the 'normal suburban family'.

It's questioning what it is exactly that makes us human and civilised, more so than any other animal. There is no answer.

A very good analysis of human interactions. I've alway wondered if the bad guy is truly bad if he fears the same treatment. Most animals have a place in the pack. But the leader tends to be fearless in the wild, protects and nurtures the family, and is very supportive of the females. However, in these movies the antagonist hates women, and fears the same treatment. This type of portrayal of evil is a coward. A very human behavior. So I think we are different from animals, because our fear reduces the alpha male to a coward.

I just watched it, and yes, it portrays life at its worst. We can only hope that we never experience what was filmed. It does make you wonder how the genre was created. But if we really look at cinema, we see hatred in most films. And that hatred can live right next door. So yes be appalled at the violence, but also be mindful to recognize it in all it's forms.

And I missed a movie I wanted to see, "She", starring Ursula Andress.

I've seen enough women be violent that seeing one take a punch does not bother me. Victimizing women OR men is a different story. That falls under bullying, and that I do not like.

I've got to say I disagree. I really didn't think the suffering was all that bad, I guess what was IMPLIED was worse, and the mental torture was pretty rough but what you actually saw, in my opinion was not excessive.

The other day I saw a segment on TV, so I was curious about the film, first I saw Offspring then this one.

Yep is disturbing, specially the scenario. But after seeing the amateurish look of the first one, the violence or gore of this one does not impress me so much.

Spoiler, I was expecting for a revenge on the father and the rapist kid, but the dead of the teacher and the mom was kind of cruel.

But I must say the the other day I saw Eden Lake and that one was much much much more disturbing than The Woman, specially the ending.

By the way, the film has a nice soundtrack.
