Some films pull it off. I loved Grave Encounters because it made sense for them to have the cameras as it was their only source of light when the chaos was going and being chased as well as a tv crew there to film supernatural events for their show.

Cloverfield sucked ass imo because it didnt make sense while a giant moster is snatching ppl right beside you that you would be holding this camera not filming for any other reeason other than just to be filming.

Lastly, I think it's important that you should know that you have just read my signature.

you clearly have NOT seen this movie!, its not a "shaky cam horror",...the movie is a collection of a lot of different footage, from a lot of different cameras, featuring a lot of different perspectives, and hardly any if none of it is "shaky", at no point did i feel like i couldn't see or tell what was happening, and a good portion of it is footage from stationary camera's, webcam's, CCTV, police car cam, skype, facetime ect,...its not footage of people running around with a video camera from start to finish, in fact, i cant think of any time during this movie where somebody is running around with the camera, like many others have said in this thread, if your not into this genre, then fine, but don't talk crap when you clearly haven't watched the movie,...NAY!

Grave encounters was smart enough to set up their cameras on tripods which eliminated the shaky cam. They were simulating an actual TV show. If they did this more I would be sympathetic to these found footage films. As it is now, there are far too many dumb actors running around with shaky cams. I just don't get the people who find this more realistic. Its a MOVIE, no matter if the cam is on a tripod or whether some dumb kid runs around dropping it allover the place giving the viewers headaches.. I miss old fashioned horror films which are slowly disappearing from the market.

I disagree. Cloverfield did a fairly good job because the cam was high quality and very clear and while the shaking was there, it wasn't as pronounced as the crap being released today. You could still make out the effects and the camera didn't fall out of the actors hand everytime something significant happens. And also, a to the argument that they shouldnt have been filming, the people carrying the camera in Cloverfield were no different then the idiots in other movies, ie "We have to document this for the American people!!!11 America must see this, blah blah!"

I clearly DID watch this movie and it DOES have shaky cam. They have some interviews, but for the most part the horror footage is 100% shaky cam. The rest is some crappy attempt at a documentary which isn't interesting or scary IMO.

A big YAH on getting rid of these shaky cam films!
