6.8, really?
I thought this film was brilliantly made. It has over 90% fresh rating at Rotten Tomatoes and at Metacritic of 75 (one of the best reviewed so far this year). Why such a low rating here?

shareI don't like the mockumentary style either. The townspeople are not funny or interesting in any way. Jack Black hasn't been funny in years and this film is no exception. The story is lame and I don't care about anyone in it.
shareI thought the townspeople were great. After JB, they were my favorite part of the movie.
You saw Dingleberries?
It definitely was made very well. One of the best movies I've seen in awhile! I don't think a lot of people know about it though, thus the low rating.
The world's got me dizzy again. You think after 22 years I'd be used to the spin.
Agreed. Better than anything else I've seen this year (haven't seen Lincoln yet). Definitely beats out Argo (which I liked) imho.
shareHaving a very high rating on IMDB is not exactly synonymous with a very high rating at RT. 90% fresh at RT just means that 9 out of 10 critics thought the movie was at least good, not that it was amazing. 6.8 is a very good rating on IMDB. It works out that most critics thought the movie was a good movie and its IMDB rating proves it to be good in fans eyes.
shareI thought the same thing. I went straight to the message boards to see what was up with the low rating and saw that you had already posted about the low rating. It's a fantastic movie! Jack Black was great as this character and fit the role like a glove. The fact that the townspeople were not actors, and were talking about the real people and events was a thrill to find out, because they were entertaining, and fun. It showed a lot of guts by the film makers to include them with the acted out portions, because the performances by Black and Maclaine matched up very well (it could've been a trainwreck.) I have a feeling that the low score is more about some people's bias toward Jack Black and the gung ho for God attitude of his character. Oh well, their loss. Everyone should give it a chance. I gave it an 8.
shareI actually gave it a 1. Sorry couldn't stand the movie.
