6.8, really?

I thought this film was brilliantly made. It has over 90% fresh rating at Rotten Tomatoes and at Metacritic of 75 (one of the best reviewed so far this year). Why such a low rating here?

reply

I gave it a 10, it is one of the best movies I've ever seen, I enjoyed this movie from start to finish.

I thought it was a very well-made film, I gave it a 9.

If it'll make you feel better, I just gave it a 10.

I was really looking forward to this, but the mockumentary style didn't work for me. To each their own, I guess, but I was very disappointed that they chose that style of story telling.

I gave it a five just for JB's outstanding acting.

I don't usually like Jack Black as an actor. I watched King Kong just to see the Ape. But Showtime showed Bernie this week and I enjoyed it

This film was terribly thought provoking and very well made. Jack Black gave an oscar performance. The thing that really made this film was theI soundtrack. A lot of us grew up on church music even if we abandoned it later in life. I brought back memories. Most likely really poor marketing killed the film as I never heard of it other than seeing it in Redbox and on Netflix. It is as good as any oscar nominated film in the last ten years.

Brilliantly made yes, excellent performances. But it was advertised as a comedy and it really wasn't funny. It's a sad, true story - should have been promoted that way. Very disappointing that it didn't have the JB signature comedy, though an excellent film nonetheless.
