I couldn't believe how bad it was. So much potential completely wasted. This was a disjointed, meandering, mixed up mess. It was like they really had no idea what to do with Gru after making him a good guy. The villain was lousy and there was no suspense whatsoever during the final fight. I had to go home and watch the first one again to wash the bad taste of this garbage out of my mouth...
shareI agree 100%. It just sort of fell flat. My daughter, who has not seen DM1 was not impressed in the least. My son-in-law actually dozed off! I swore to them that DM1 was way better. I am going to have to buy it now and prove my point.

I think the OP pretty much captures it, this film was all over the place. I don't think the original is a classic, but it was well plotted and tightly focused. As another poster said, it really was that they wanted to do a minion film and hung it on a few other things to justify it existing. If you don't LOVE minion humour then this film isn't going to work for you.
shareI had the same reaction, I liked DM1 but found DM2 all over the map. It seemed like the had multiple ideas for a sequel but tried to use them all, take the mall story line they set up all these characters and just sort of dropped them. Parts of the movie seemed to just be Minion shorts dropped in. Even some kids who watched it in the theatre seemed to lose interest in it.
Agreed. I don't know what was the plot of it. Was it to find love, or to defeat El Macho? The villain is also undeveloped. I pretend that there is no sequel, but it's impossible, 'cause ANOTHER sequel is on this way!
shareI'll admit it had a lot of ideas and didn't develop all of it satisfactory, as well as the plot EXTREMELY predictable but other than that I think this was funnier than the first one. I REALLY do not understand all the hate that is piling up on this board. To me its the Ghostbusters 2 or the Iron Man 2 of the franchise it somewhat pales from the original but its still a pretty good time.

This was a wonderful sequel , much more fun and endearing than the first. We all loved the happy ending.
I am always amazed at the comments here at IMDB. They seem to be made by people who are either in a bad mood or trolling. It is rare to read a normal, reasonable,positive comment. WHY?

Seriously , if you go to watch this movie with a great expectation then i believe you are wasting the potential that this movie has. The first one was totally awesome , one of the few animation that made me laugh like a crazy toker. I didn't expected this one to be close to the first one but i was wrong. After i watched this my abdomen was literally burning cause of 1.5 hours of uncontrollable laughter. This was even better than the first one. I mean come on this is a animation comedy, its meant to be taken lightly, don't keep on judging it, let it flow , and you will see how funny it actually gets. ( Weed helps, a lot ;-) )
