Why didnt the Bear kill Leo?

I assume it wasnt hungry, but simply wanted to protect her cubs. But why didnt she finish the job?

Because It wouldn't *beep* the whole movie....Mr. Dumbass

Pure sympathy, dude ... :O)

The thing is, bears are unpredictable, they're irrational sometimes. She saw a threat to her cubs, attacked it, once it was eliminated she figured she'd done her job. For her, it wasn't about killing Glass, it was about putting him out of commission.
There's an article which I do not have a link for, it's an interview with the cinematographer for the movie, he talks about watching a bear attack video and how unpredictable they can be.

The bear didn't kill Leo b/c it was in the script. Otherwise, there would be no movie.

reply

That happened to the real Hugh Glass.

reply

LMAO. True

reply

LOL... you took the same smart answer I was going to post.

"Victor, what are we going to do to stop this fiendish tit?"

reply

Almost everybody seems to be missing the most obvious reason - because the bear died first. He blew a bullet through its head out its neck and stabbed the Hell out of it. Between the brain damage and blood loss, the bear simply died first.

reply

you know the trick when going against a bear is to play dead. it walked away the first time coz leo wasnt moving. any signs of movement or aggression from you and it will rip you apart especially with the cubs around.

This film is fiction. In reality, that bear would've killed Leo to defend her cubs. The wounds Leo suffered would've paralyzed and killed him. Although this film is based on a true story, the bear attack on Hugh glass was less deadly than what was depicted in the film. Actually, Hugh Glass was probably never attacked by a bear and it was all made up.

There is no way to definitively say something like this. A mother bear will definitely attack to defend her cubs and she "Might" kill you. But it is by no means a certainty. Proof of this is that many people have been mauled under similar circumstances over the years and a lot of them have survived. A mother bear attacking to defend her cubs might stop once she figures the threat is neutralized. And it's that fact that has saved a lot of people.

It's more rare for bears to attack humans in a predatory sense but to me these are the attacks most likely to be lethal. Attacks for this reason aren't going to end with the bear just wandering away after you have been rendered helpless. Nope, in these cases they stay to eat your ass. And of course there is no surviving that. LOL!

It's crazy how many times you were wrong in a relatively short post. The only thing you were even half-right about was "this film is fiction."

Saying he probably wasn't even attacked by a bear? Great historical expertise there. It was confirmed through eyewitnesses such as Jim Bridger, a great mountain man in his own right. The movie fabricated some things, but the bear attack definitely was not one of them.

Just saw your name. Lol well done sir.

reply

ofcourse. What we see in movies are always exagerations of what really happened. its how they are supposed to be made.
