I agree that this was such an unbelievably good movie. Those who read the book would probably agree with me that the movie was, in some ways, very different from the book. But most would probably also agree that despite these differences it was still an extremely well done, satisfying movie. Stephen Chbosky succeeded, as he did in the book, to project the familiar themes of adolescent struggle while simultaneously introducing his own twist and flair for fantastic story telling. But I wouldn't say that this movie made me feel empty. I still get what you're trying to say though. I felt so happy with this ending. It was complete, the characters were at peace, all was just right. But I did miss the characters like you did. How could Logan Lerman not actually be Charlie? It was hard to believe. That's how I knew how amazing this movie really was. It was completely believable.
Some ideas for you:
Skins (U.K.) : Although this series is most often, but only somewhat accurately, represented as being crude and excessively inappropriate that is a really simplistic view to have. A few episodes in you will find yourself attached to the characters, to their emotions, to their every action. It is at once hilarious and then inspiring. And always, it is unique and introspective. The whole cast is magnificent, especially Kaya Scodelario as Effy Stonem.
Garden State: Someone else commented that they love anything with Natalie Portman and I definitely agree with that. She is once again excellent here. But more so, Zach Braff is the heart of this story and he anchors it beautifully.
500 Days of Summer: I always have mixed emotions about this movie and I think that is what is so great about it. If you haven't seen this movie already just know that, as they tell you in the beginning, it is not a love story. You will spend most of this movie in misery, just as Joseph Gordon-Levitt does. You will fall in love as he does and feel all of his happiness' at your core. And then you will feel his heartbreak and every depth of his lowest lows. This movie is so powerful because you feel as the characters do. You love, you hate, and you forgive. This is life in a movie for me and because of that it will always remain one of my favorites.
Cruel Intentions: I love this movie so much. That said, it is also not for everyone. I always say never judge a book by its cover and that is equally true with this movie. Although some of her recent movies haven't been real great, Reese Witherspoon is a wonderful actress when she wants to be. Proof of this are her performances in The Man in the Moon, Election, Walk the Line, and Water for Elephants. But she is as good here as she was in many of those. We meet Annette Hargrove (Reese's Character) in Cruel Intentions and we think we know immediately where the story is to go. But so much happens between that first introduction and the movie's conclusion. It is an excellent movie, fitted with a similarly brilliant soundtrack.
So as to save myself from having to write out long, detailed descriptions any longer I will simply include these last few favorites:
-Fight Club: I think of this as the Inception of the 90's. It will mess with your mind in very enjoyable ways.
-Beginners: Ewan McGregor and Christopher Plummer. All the greatness that can be spoken of this movie is attributed to their performances. And that is enough.
-IMHO-
