Movies that make you feel empty inside

After watching this movie (which I really enjoyed), I just sat there looking at nothing for ten minutes. Now, half an hour later, I've still got a lump in my throat. This movie really got to me.

I'm a guy in the 20's and I like.. you know.. Guy movies. I love Django Unchained (and everything other Tarantino), Sin City and stuff like that.

However, I also really like movies like this. I don't cry during or after movies though, but sometimes, like now, I watch a movie that just makes me want to (hence the before mentioned lump).

I think it has something to do with me really enjoying the movie while it lasts, and then, when it's done, I'm a little sad that (in this case) Charlie is just Logan Lerman and Sam is just Emma Watson once again.
I don't know them anymore. I get back to reality. And it makes me feel kind of empty inside.

This of course means that the characters in the movie have grown on me, and I bet I'm not the only one who feels like this once in a while. So therefore I'm asking you guys to share with me some of the movies that have made you feel this way.
Amélie springs to my mind as another example.

I haven’t felt this strongly about a film since (500) Days of Summer. Sometimes a movie just gets into your stomach, and The Perks of Being a Wallflower, like (500) Days of Summer, most definitely does. Prior to seeing this film, I didn’t even know who Logan Lerman was. Not since Claire Danes in My So-Called Life has an actor inhabited a teenage character so convincingly—and heartbreakingly. I still can’t get through the breakdown scene without tearing up.

I love this movie just as much for the “little” moments, though, as I do the big ones. Take Charlie at the football game. Patrick and Sam are talking to him, inviting him to join them afterwards. The look of excitement—of belonging—on his face is so palpable.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower is one of the finest films I’ve seen in years.

The next time you watch a movie like this, dont hold it up and cry like a baby. You'll feel better later. Honest. If emotions start rolling let them do their thing.

I felt like I was Charlie at the beginning, but I never got past the beginning. I loved this film but I too felt empty inside at the end, because of who I am.

The only other movie I can compare to this that made me feel a lot of emotions is (500) Days of Summer. If you haven't seen t, you're missing out. It is SO good. Even better then this one, but very close.

You hit the nail on the head. I'm sitting with the exact same feeling.

I would like to recommend some of these previously mentioned movies:

Igby Goes Down
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Amelie
Dazed and Confused
Mean Creek
Before Sunrise / Before Sunset
The Virgin Suicides

Also would like to add:

Life as a House
Manic

I would also recommend the short lived Freaks and Geeks and My So Called Life for nostalgic peeks into teen lives in the 80s and 90s

Happy birthday to the ground!

I feel exactly the same. I am 22, I watch movies from directors like Tarantino, Nolan, Crime movies, Thrillers, Horrors... But this hit me hard. I felt so empty inside and I found myself staring and the wall after the movie ended for about 10 minutes.

I second that. You are not the only one.

I just watched the movie, had the exact same experience. I am short of words, kinda feeling infinite..

I recommend, some of the movies which leave you thinking, like this one (In alphabetical order) -

About Time
Into The Wild
Short Term 12
Swades
The Road
The Shawshank Redemption

Don't know if I replied already (long long thread and I've been on IMDB since forever) but:
The Virgin Suicides
Mysterious Skin
Adventureland
My Girl
Ghost World

All coming of age films that just go that tad farther at showing what life throws at you.
