Millenials will have forgotten the original by now!
This is probably the target audience, and they were in nappies when the [crap] original was out?
Why bother now?

You're referring to Generation Z (1995 to 2010), essentially kids that grew up on the Star Wars Special Editions & Prequels.
shareI'm hoping for a poor box office showing for A2. No one wants, needs or even asked for this. Except maybe a few nimrods that got those STUPID Avatard tattoos back when the first one was in theaters.
shareDidn't Cameron say this was going to be a trilogy back when the first one came out? So, we are expecting this one to be released if that is the case.
shareMy children were in diapers when Avatar came out, and they've seen it. During the pre-release publicity for the sequel the current generation of kids and teens will seek it out if it's new to them. These days we don't have to wait until some network decides to screen a film for us, we can watch whenever.
What blows my mind is giving the go ahead to not one but four sequels. If the first of them bombs, the rest will go direct to video. Amazon, Netflix, or Hulu will get a great deal on 500 million dollars worth of content they won't have to produce themselves - but it'll be the greatest financial disaster in cinematic history for the studio. And James Cameron will have to go off the grid into hiding. 😎
I liked Avatar, it was entertaining if not terribly original - Dances With Wolves on another planet - and there are possibilities for taking the story in a more interesting and unique direction. But I don't see how you sustain it for four more films. I really don't. The most ambitious ideas I can think of would be wrapped up in no more than two.
Its almost like he's trying to make up for what happened with terminator .. he wasn't able to do the sequels post T2 ..so is now going crazy with Avatar
shareMillennials were in their 20s when the first movie came out. I don't think that's the age where you wear diapers.
