Fake as hell

While Top Gear can be entertaining, it's clear the producers have very little respect for the intelligence of the viewers. All the 'mishaps', all the dialogue is comprehensively scripted. It's much harder to enjoy the show once you realise this.

It's as fake as wrestling.

And when genuine things do happen everyone thinks it's fake.

Simply think of the three 'Presenters' as Actors and you'll start to enjoy watching Top Gear again.

They are very bad actors, that's part of the problem.

But I don't know why they do it in the first place. There must be tons of things happening while recording the show that they could use to "spice things up" instead of making lame stuff up.

The early episodes weren't as obviously scripted as it's been in recent seasons. It's good while the scripting isn't obvious.
Some examples like the taxi race (S20) the car driving through the limo looked very set up. The radio show episode, there was a cameraman in the men's toilet following Hammond, which was another obvious scripted event.

Yes!!! My most favorite special!

Dude lighten up. Of course it's scripted all good shows are including every reality show ever. Perhaps you don't get British humor. They do it that way on purpose though maybe you're not swift enough to realize that.

reply

Of course it's going to be scripted to some extent. My point is it has become massively over-scripted. Like the fake diners in that hovercraft episode.

Or when they set a pedestrian on fire with the flamethrower on their harvester/snowplow conversion.

reply

I'm with you. Honestly, what isn't scripted these days? Plus, it's not like it's some stupid, obnoxious reality show like Honey Boo-Boo, so I'm okay with it. I like it, scripted or not.

Quit your whining and just enjoy it for what it is

reply

Nobody's holding a gun to your head to watch it, eh.

I'm not so sure that James's horse 'mishap' was scripted.

As for the intelligence of the viewers...you're just realising most of it is staged now? I think most intelligent viewers worked this out about 12 years ago.

Well, scripting is kind of necessary for an entertainment show such as top gear. It would be kind of boring if the trips they film are uneventful. Quit whining and if you don't like it - don't watch it. Simple!

I can't believe how many people are missing my point. I'm not complaining that it is scripted, just noting that the producers have gotten lazy compared to the way it was scripted 10+ years ago.
