Wrong, I love sci-fi/fantasy, and this one sucked. Only reason I watched all of it was because the fantasy stuff was still entertaining, but they could have done this way better and I don't get how they manage to screw something like this up. Had a bunch of great actors, great special effects team, clearly a ton of money, why can't they get someone who is actually inspired to write something good?
First of all, nobody wants Vin Diesel in anything, he's the most boring guy on earth, possibly due to the roles written for him but possibly also just because he sucks in the "hero" role, he was good as Riddick but that's about it.
When they have great actors like both the priest guys and that hot redhead, why not use them for something other than glorifying a "hero" that nobody likes, you know, like giving them some actual roles instead of making them plot devices.
This movie could have been great, even with Vin Diesel, if they had someone that could come up with an actual story instead of someone who's idea of writing is "lets make the good guy kill a bunch of evil witches and we'll make a bunch of money". There is no humor, the scenes that are supposed to be "cool" just seem forced, and there is nothing that makes you feel anything. Nobody came out of the theater going "it was so awesome when that happened" or "that part was so sad" or "I laughed so hard when...", there was nothing that got you involved at all.
Tiny spoilers below, if that's possible as everything in this turns out exactly as expected.
Part 2: Vin Diesel dies in the first scene, redhead becomes main character, Elijah Wood gets resurrected by some ancient evil and becomes a total evil badass. We get a lot more story about the witches and how their world works, ignore the church *beep* as nobody gives a *beep* about religion anymore. Make witch girl go on a journey to discover her true potential while Elijah with his new powers is destroying the world, making humans slaves, taking away our technology, getting things back to the old ways. Witch-girl has to go trough a bunch of trials to find her power, you know, real fantasy stuff and NOT kicking a troll in the nuts or something dumb like that, but stuff like acquiring magic dagger form a swamp where cute but mischievous faries rule, getting enlightenment form an ancient tree on the top of a mountain, meeting some old hidden witch coven, going to the land of the dead, whatever, just make it interesting. Might still just be a "recipe movie" but at least it might be fun. Just get some writers who's at least seen Princess Bride or read a book or something, jeez.
