They put all this time and effort into the world of the movie, so many characters, races, classes, ships, weapons, accessories, so many little details, but forgot to write a decent story. The same thing happened with the Matrix sequels. Packed it so full of junk, layer upon layer, as if to distract from the subpar storytelling. What a waste.
These dudes are totally lost.
The story of Jupiter Asc. was kinda formulaic.... we've seen this type of "special child that REALLY belongs elsewhere because they are the chosen one" so many times before.....
sens8 is amazing.... i'd recommend that.
Style over substance. Kind of makes you wonder about those allegations regarding the first Matrix because everything after sucked big time in regards to script writing. Visually, after the Matrix, they're movies because too grandiose. They should scale it back.

I recognize the structure and I'm fine with it - it works. It's not any kind of philosphy or grand revelation - it's a simple video-game structure.
Heck, JAWS isn't much different. Fight a shark, level up with shark expert, fight a shark, level up with a master shark hunter, fight a shark, WISH for a bigger boat...
Cloud Atlas resonates with people. And Sense8, their Netflix series, a whole lot more.

No, Mr. Nick, Bound remains a really good movie that has aged very well. It also has a lot of glimpses foretelling the brothers deciding to become the sisters, more than The Matrix, in fact.

shareCloud Atlas was excellent as well imo..but that story wasn't theirs either..When I had heard this was getting made I was excited...An epic sci-fi movie by the wachowskis hell yeah. Unfortunately this movie was disappointing. It had so much potential. If only they would have worked more on the story instead of rushing it through it could have been really good. I knew something was amiss when the release date got pushed back and they where doing FX reshoots.
That's probably it now for the wachowskis, I doubt you'll be seeing any new work from them for a long while.
"Cloud Atlas" was IMHO an incoherent mess, but one with enough touches of goodness to make it clear that it was possible to make a good film out of the material. Maybe it it'd had more precise directors and no Tom Hanks or Halle Berry, "Cloud Atlas" could have fulfilled its potential or some of it.
"Speed Racer" is actually more fun to watch. Not that it's a good film, it's not (it's NOT), but it's ridiculous and doesn't take itself seriously and it looks WAY cool. And if that's the best the Wachowskis can do, they need to seriously rethink their career plans.
Bound was a pretty decent start from them I thought.
With The Matrix, they only had $100 million to work with and had a lifetime to revise and perfect the story they always wanted to tell.
The sequels, they were dictated to by Warner Bros. and forced to up the ante.
It's like what happened with the Hobbit, they had to up the ante from Lord of the Rings and what we got was an over bloated action packed sh*tfest
WB needs to sit them down and tell them to work on something for a few years, then give them a small budget and make them craft something great again.

right, bound! Bound was better than the Matrix even i think. brilliant story, very adeptly executed story, great performances, great tone, atmosphere, original film. 5 out of 5 stars.
