Wild Card Prediction

Los Angeles - Tiana 'Sweet T"

reply

I just saw that they have been posting Wild Cards on the American Ninja Warrior Twitter page:

- Tory Garcia (LA)
- Tiana Webberly (LA) - Yay, we called it
- Natalie Duran (LA) - We called her too
- Erica Cook (Atl)

I will add others when they are posted.

So they're pulling the stunt of just wildcarding all girls again?

reply

That's what it's looking like.

Give wild cards to people who definitely won't win.

No offense, girls.

What am I gonna do... with a gun rack?

reply

No offense, girls

Believe me...no offense taken on my end. I think it's a huge embarrassment and disservice to the people who actually earned the Wild cards. I don't know if ANW thinks it's somehow helping women by doing this, but IMO, it has the opposite effect.

This reminds me of the two per country rule in Gymnastics. Gabby Douglas qualifies 3rd out of about 50 women...but can't go to the All-Around because Simone and Aly finished before her. So, a girl that finished in 27th place can go to the AA, but the girl in 3rd can't. Is the girl in 27th place going to have a chance in the AA?? No. So why the hell waste the spot?

Are any of the women that got these gifted WC's going to get anywhere near the end of Stage 1?? Nope. Those spots should go to the individuals who actually earned them.

My feet have wings, barf bag.

Don't get your hopes up. This is NBC. Just look how they're covering the Olympics. Their official stance is that they can tape delay and highlight certain storylines because women are more interested in human interest stories. NBC does not care about promoting this as an athletic event. They are completely tone deaf to their audience and don't expect them to change unless the ratings crater.

reply

Can't say that I am surprised, as it is what they did the last time, but I was hoping that they would have gone in another direction.

In NBC's defense, the show gets more buzz when women do well, than when men do well. And, it is all about the ratings and buzz, so they have more incentive to give women the Wild Cards.

Also, in theory, if you weren't strong enough to qualify on your own, you aren't strong enough to finish Stage 4, so it almost doesn't matter who the Wild Cards go to.

It does seem like they are going with all women as wild cards this year. At least so far, there are still 13 more wild card spots to fill.

I'll keep updating as they come out.

reply

There are 13 more and I think that they will include some men including

- Good but messed up (veteran): Lance Pekus, Tremayne Dortch, David Campbell or Lorin Ball (less likely JJ Woods or Abel Gonsalves)

- Good but messed up (newbie): Caleb Watson

- Heartfelt story or effort: Michael Stanger, Artis Thompson III, or the other 1 legged man

reply

There's going to be 25 wild cards, I highly doubt all 25 are going to be women.

However, it does seem dumb to give so many women (some of which I don't ever even remember seeing) a spot, other than just minimizing the number of people that will ever move on.

They announced all of them before the Philly run, so that's up to 3 more women that will added.

Perhaps 15 women and 10 men will go?

Hopefully this will be the last year they do it. 3 women legitimately earned their spot, which I originally predicted, but giving spots to women who didn't even remotely deserve it is a major disservice to the amazing women that did make it.

reply

Makes sense.

The three women who qualified to the Philadelphia city finals but didn't make it to Vegas would probably round out the Wild Card list.

13. Allyssa Beird
14. Rachael Goldstein
15. Michelle Warnky

I haven't been able to find the whole list anywhere. Do you know when/if they are going to post it?

reply

Maybe they'll only do 15 Wild Cards this year and keep it all female.

In their defense, how will the justify the men that they choose since there are so many contenders and possibly only 10 spots. Keeping it just to the females makes it easier.

reply

Michael Stanger's wife might not even be alive next season.
Artis Thompson III - if he had gotten that third tire and dismounted he would have gotten in...

Lance Pekus....What, didn't he get to Stage III last year? If they're going to bring back Kacy, why not bring back any contestant who has gotten to Stage III?

reply

[deleted]

They said 90 contestants, so they only gave the Wild Cards to the 15 women.
