Anyone else seen this and The Ending (spoilers)
Shame to see no threads or discussion on this. I really rate this one highly. If you haven't seen it, definitely go out of the way to watch it. Basic synopsis is When lesbian teen Jaime is sent to live in a Jehovah's Witness community, she falls hard for a devout girl and the two embark on an intense affair with consequences that reshape their lives
I thought both actresses Anwen O'Driscoll and June LePorte deliver strong performances, doesn't hurt both are easy on the eye. And the central romance is done really well without been eye rolling or wince inducing. Also well shot as well considering the budget it was made on. And at a brisk 95 minutes doesn't overstay it's welcome.
The ending seems to have caused a lot of debate. Some really like it and some really hate it. Basically Marike, the Jehovah Witness love interest ends up marrying a guy and having a child. Even though she still loves Jaime. My issue with "A few years later" time skip, is that it feels to me Jaime is going to end up as bit on the side for Marike as she still plays housewife that will lead to Jaime been miserable or Marike picking up and leaving her child behind to go off with Jaime and continuning the cycle of her mother leaving her and her siblings behind. I just don't see a happy ending for Jaime in this and even Marike, I just don't get she's ever going to really make that big step to leave. But some feel like it's a hopeful ending and I sort of see that too.
So if anyone answers this what did you think of the film and the ending especially.
