Scots, how was Reynolds' accent?

I am usually unimpressed with most actors' Scottish accents. They generally seem to be trying too hard, but Mr. Whiskers sounded pretty natural to my American ears. Maybe Edinburgh-ish? How was his accent really?

That's awesome that Scots are saying it was good. I didn't even realize it was Ryan until AFTER I finished the movie! Lol.

I agree.

I thought it was good, I actually went to look up who it was before I realise Ryan Reynolds did the voices. Though it's kinda ironic because in this case if it had been bad it still would've been ok 'cause it was just Jerry's imagination, so there was an excuse for a bad accent.

It could have been a lot worse!! Most American actors when they try a Scots accent end up sounding like Groundskeeper Willie!

He's not American, he's Canadian.

Wow you need to get out more. Irish and Scottish accents are NOTHING alike!

reply

They really are nothing alike, yet for the strangest reason, every time I try to do a Scots accent I wind up in Irish.

Can't for the life of me figure why, I've always had an ear for accents, my whole family is British, and I lived in England for a few years when I was young, I should sure as hell be able to separate the Scots accent from the Irish accent.

Tommy... how's the peeping?

I'm not Scottish, but I was impressed with Reynolds' accent and voice work in general here. I didn't know he had this in him, to be honest (I had never really liked him at all as an actor in prior films, but I have to give him credit here).

I'm from Edinburgh. I found the accent slightly hokey at the beginning of the film but it got slightly better towards the end. He had the right slang at certain parts and the way the words were used, but to be honest, as the cat is supposed to be a part of his psyche and in his voice, the accent was never going to be perfect anyway.
