Underrated as Hell!
I saw this tonight, expecting to laugh my way through its badness. I was shocked. This is a fine alien invasion movie, definitely not worthy of the hatred and negative reviews.

shareTotally agree with you, the low score is definitely undeserved. I also thought the effects were damn good considering the low budget.
Yes the movie did borrow from others but there was enough originality in the alien character design to easily set it apart from the rest. I really hope they make another.
The ending had a very unique twist to it.
_______________
*beep* what ending? The movie had no ending. I can't believe all the people praising the film says the movie even has an ending.
@ the OP: I totally agree! And I don't understand all the complaints about the ending; I thought it was much more satisfactory than Cloverfield's ending.
Also, there were stereotypes I expected (such as Terry returning unharmed) that didn't occur, and that was refreshing.
Plus, I always enjoy David Zayas!

I think one of the main problems was that in the initial trailers the surprise kills were already shown. You knew the Ferrari was going to get smashed and you knew the rescue helicopter was going to get destroyed. Two very key moments of the movie were already ruined.
I did enjoy it however and rated it a 6/10. Was it something I will watch again? Probably not, and the more I see David Zayas the more I think he should just stick to Dexter. However the ending made me curious as to what happens next and I actually look forward to the sequel.
I've liked Zayas since "Oz." :)
I'd never heard of the movie before I happened across it on Netflix W.I., so I didn't have those key moments ruined for me; I can see how that would put a damper on the surprise factor.

I ended up liking it better than I thought I would. The first half of the movie is rather weak, but it gets stronger toward the end, and I did like that I wasn't able to predict the ending like I have so many other sci-fi movies, so they get points for that. Is it perfect? Not by a long shot, but it's decent fare, and I felt overall that it was worth the time invested. Hopefully, there will be a sequel as the ending seems to prime itself for such.

WORST ALIEN MOVIE EVER!!!! 10 million... give me a break! The writers seriously watched a few blockbuster movies and just used the same props, ideas, and twists. They could have just spliced together scenes from other movies and it would have looked the same.
shareLOL, watch better movies people. Skyline is one of the worst sci-fi alien movies ever made.
shareJust watch the SyFy channel for a week and you will find many Alien movies that are far worse then people claim Skyline to be.
You're comparing it Low Budget T.V. movies, with Theatrical Standards, this movie sucks period.
sharenot in the least mate, Skyline is awesome, just because it had an open ending everyone seems to bitch and moan these days, I didn't see this kind of backlash when District 9 ended... and that was a *beep* awesome film. Skyline is bloody brilliant nuff said

Man, I loved this movie! The aliens were incredibly well done, very impressive. I could not believe my eyes when I looked up in IMDB that this movie was made for 10 mil. Best 10 mil ever spent for effects budgets in history as far as I am concerned. They spent 75 mil on Independence Day 15 years ago, and you got good effects, but you had to put up with all the incredibly goofy studio rah rah junk they always throw in. Father is a drunk but sacrifices himself gloriously to destroy the alien spaceship, President gives the dramatic patriotic speech just before going into battle with a bunch of crop dusters facing impossible odds, yadda yadda yadda. I enjoyed the effects in ID4, but the script was stupid. OK, so the big ships have a weakness, they tend to explode if you can knock out their big gun just before they fire.... so c'mon super-advanced alien race, don't fire your big gun. (doh!)
This movie was great! Loved the ending, HUMANS LOSE! And to think I kept expecting them to find the one alien weakness....
you do realize that the movie made between 3-7x's what it cost to make it? (depending the source)
regardless of the opinion of the mass majority it still was a box office success

Yep, that's a huge ROI! The producers knew they're not making The Godfather when they green lit this pic. This is a movie for 15-25 year old males who like video games, cars, and explosions. Hey, I'm not in that age range but I like those things too. Evidently, there was enough interest to pull down 70 million on this pic.
shareHUMANS LOSE! And to think I kept expecting them to find the one alien weakness....
______
what a dumbass, there was no ending and humans did not lose.
I'm a male aged 15-25 who likes video games, car, and explosions and I hated this movie :) Bad movies should not be given a free-pass due to genre short-comings.
This is same excuse which allowed Hollywood producers to green-light awful syrupy 'kid's movies' of the 1980's. It took Pixar to realise what potential Childrens' Movies could have. Hopefully, someone will do the same with the Alien Invasion genre.
For an action-adventure movie I reckon 70 million is a small box office take anyway. Thoughts anyone?
It really is not that bad. I enjoyed it.
It was not a masterpiece, but all this hatred is quite ridiculous in my opinion.
"I don't smoke, drink or swear anymore. F^ck! I left my bag of weed at the pub."
I disagree, all the hatred is definitely there for a reason mainly the ending and the terrible boring characters.
shareOne of the main problems I had with the movie is that it left many things unexplained. Other than that, all of my other problems were minor. I thought the effects were great, action was entertaining and even though the characters are boring, they help move the story along and I did not think they were bad characters; they were at least believable to me.
The ending is not bad. Like I said, things are unexplained and the movie just feels like it's not complete, but it leaves a great cliffhanger for the second film. I just thought it could have been much better if it were more professionally done, but I enjoyed it altogether because it was fun, and seemed fresh even though it had a tired plot. Whatever, I love many films that are widely hated because I try to see the good in every movie and typically enjoy more than the average critic.
"I don't smoke, drink or swear anymore. F^ck! I left my bag of weed at the pub."
OK, but why the need to have everything explained? The characters in the film were shocked to see Earth invaded. They were never given an explanation for the invasion, they had to guess just like the film audience. It's actually more realistic than a nice tidy explanation about how they wanted Earth's water, Earth's atmosphere, Earth's elephants, or maybe they just like Earth's donuts. Let's not forget humans lost, so no explanation for the invasion is necessary to the vanquished.
shareI agree ti the OP too. A very nice and original aliens-turn-people-into-zombies movie. Braaaainnnns!
shareYeah honestly when i first read the reviews on these boards about this film i thought it would suck because most of the time i agree with other people but I decided to watch this movie tonight because i was bored and i was actually pleasantly surprised! I actually liked this movie..sure it has it's problems and flaws but it was a fun entertaining movie...i didn't go into it expecting anything so maybe that's why i enjoyed it more than others did
shareI agree completely, I like to see more of this 'cheap' CGI stuff.
Good CGI, aliens are detailed and well thought through, the cast was more then adequate, the story more then adequate (for this type of movie) camerawork excellent. Compared to the regular Sci-Fi flicks I rate this a 7.5 and that says a lot for someone like me (but it has also got to do with the sheer load of crap Sc-Fi movies of the last decade). I do have a feeling this was inspired by the Cloverfield movie though (storywise).
Sci-Fi/CGI fans won't be disappointed, I will be buying the BluRay soon.
For god's sake people. Now what's with the 4.6 rating this movie got here or all the hatred this movie is getting. Come on people. Are you all so depressed or a bunch of trolls that just love to hate everything. I mean I could understand a 6 point sth rating maybe or I was expecting better type of comments but it is definitely not a 4.6 movie and it certainly does not deserve 'worst movie ever' comments.
I actually really enjoyed it. It had suspense. I was constantly curious throughout the movie wondering what's going to happen and what the aliens are. The tempo of the movie was alright too. Acting was good considering the low budget. You don't get Keanu Reeves with a 10 million budget. And about the story.. It's an alien invasion movie so what were you guys expecting. If you want a story movie watch Forest Gump or sth.
Overall, it was an enjoyable alien movie, with a different take on aliens. If you like alien invasion movies with good CGI then watch this movie. If you don't then don't watch it. For instance I don't go to Jennifer Aniston movies cause I am not a big fan of chick-flix movies. It would be stupid of me to go to a movie genre that I don't like and then go online just to bash how stupid it was. If you think aliens invading earth is a stupid story-line then don't watch it. This way you won't have to go online just to say how stupid idea it is to make a movie about aliens invading earth.
Viddy well brothers. Viddy well.

Viddy well brothers. Viddy well.
i thought this movie is sucked because of the imdb rating but when i watched this movie is extremely underrated. i found effects and all other things are very professional. Even it has very clever twists and consequences.
Shame on people who vote this 4.5. They can go and watch gay vampires and other
stupid political progagandas etc.
I thought the movie was also decent. The CGI, camera angles and visual shots were well done. The characters were OK and the acting is equivalent to the standard of an action film or regular TV show.
But overall, it is hard to understand why people hate this so much. Maybe the ending gave a bad taste to their mouths.
