Really annoying show

I've tried to watch it on multiple occasions but it just is so annoying.
The voices are grating, the wife's nasal nails on a chalkboard voice, the dad who is voiced by the same actor who does Carl the convenience store manager on Family Guy - boring. Louise with the bunny ears has got to be the most annoying, irritating character I've ever seen - her voice is akin to having to listen to cats phukk And the other 2 kids are obnoxious and get away with everything.

Do you think maybe they picked male voice actor to do Linda's (the wife) voice because they wanted the voice to be weird?

By the way, H. Jon Benjamin (the voice of Bob) is more known for being the voice of Sterling Archer from Archer than he is Carl -- what I mean is that Carl is only an infrequent minor character on Family Guy, while Sterling Archer is the main character on Archer.

Archer even did a send-up of the fact that H. Jon Benjamin is both the voice of Archer and Bob. In the fourth season premiere of Archer, Archer has amnesia (he doesn't know who he is) and has been living for the past two months as the owner of Bob's Burgers:

Why do people post on message boards? because it's a free country and they can do whatever they want . Nobody is forcing you to reply but you do anyway. So what's your point? Seems to me a difference of opinion is always wrong to you and others so that you have to complain to complain.

reply

Haha, exactly. Too many imdb users seem to think this is their own little personal message board. They act as if you owe them an explanation for why you even dared post an opinion or point of view they don't agree with.

Sure, but what's the point of posting "I don't like this show" on a board for a show you don't like?

I mean, there are dozens of TV shows I don't like (hundreds, if you count older shows and movies), but I don't really see any reason that I would bother posting on those boards. I suppose people are free to do so, but it just seems pointless.

Everyone's tastes are different, so who am I to dis a show just because there is something about it (such as the voice of a character) that I personally don't like?

reply

Why not post a dissenting opinion on a show's message board? Sure, you're setting yourself up for scorn and flames, but I would think that if the opposing view is
presented in a coherent manner without being insulting there should be no need to attack the dissenter.

Annoying the world since 1960!

Again, because there are far far more TV shows that I don't care for that it would take too much of my time to bother posting my dissenting opinion in all of them.

You could say "well, then don't post in all of them", to which I would respond "how do I chose which ones to write those dissenting opinions"?

And there is still the point that people have different tastes, so the fact that the OP finds the ENTIRE SHOW because of John Roberts' voice characterization of Linda and the fact the H. Jon Benjamin also does voice work on Family Guy is not very relevant, because other people may not be bothered by Linda's voice or be bothered by the fact that Benjamin is also Carl on Family Guy enough to find the entire show annoying because of those things.

Seriously -- why would anyone bother posting their dissatisfaction over H. Jon Benjamin being both Carl and Bob Belcher? 

You're the one complaining. I'm asking "WTF do you want?" Should we be gushing at your superb tastes? Are we supposed to join you in a boycott?

You don't like it. Okay. Great. Now what?

Or my isn't name...

reply

Well, where WOULD you post an opinion about a show or movie that you don't like if not on that show or movie's boards? Also, wouldn't things be rather dull around here without some debate?

I can see reasons for people who watch the show to debate things they don't like about the show and things they do like.

However, it just seems to be a lot of unnecessary work to go onto the board of a show they DON'T watch to explain why it is that they don't watch the show. Like I said, people are welcome to do so if that's the way they want to pass their time, but it just seems odd to me.

Should I go on the board for the Walking Dead to explain why I don't watch it, or on the board for Orange is the New Black or Justified or The Good Wife, or the Goldbergs, Bluebloods, Superstore, Blindspot, or Scorpion or the Muppets or Hawaii 5-0 or Shades of Blue, or any of the many shows I don't watch.

reply

Let's do that. Who knows, it might be surprisingly fun or interesting in some way. I'll go over to the Once Upon a Time board and make a topic about why I don't watch that; you take Blindspot. We can meet back here to report on our experiences.

Or not, because that seems like a really unpleasant waste of time... time that we could be wasting enjoyably. 

Or you could just STFU

reply

Your brother needs to STFU. In bed!

"I promise you, I have no idea what I'm doing."

reply

Obviously not your show.

reply

Yeah, I have to agree. Annoying is the perfect way to describe it.

Tina is gross and disgusting, Louise is an obnoxious tryhard who routinely screws things up and makes life difficult for the entire family in ways that don't even make sense, Gene is cringey, and Linda is an aloof, demanding nag.

Also, it's really not funny. The only character I don't find annoying is Bob, but that's only because he doesn't have much of a personality to begin with.

I gave this show plenty of chances over the years and yeah, it's just not for me. I don't like it when animated shows take the suspension of disbelief this many steps too far.

Tina and Gene are arguably as you mentioned (although I like Tina and Gene), but I don't see how Louise "routinely screws things up" or how Linda is hag. Actually, Linda seems quite the devoted and supportive wife to Bob. Louise is nuts, but she is normally harmless.

Ok, I'll bite.

You're right - this is a terrible, terrible show. Really awful. All the characters have annoying voices and are poorly drawn. You should totally not watch it. Ever. It must be a great load off your shoulders to come here and voice your disdain.
Thank you for sharing your opinions and have a nice day.
Now go in peace.

I like the guy who voices Bob (and Archer and Dr Katz son). I was really thinking I would like this show when it came on, but the kids ruin it for me. I don't like them or their story lines. Their voices are annoying yes, but I could live with that if I liked any of their story lines. I end up fast forwarding thru any scene they're in, but unfortunately that ends up being the majority of the show.

I would love it if they killed off all the kids (drowning, kidnapping, measles) and had it just Bob and some of the other quirky characters. Maybe have the wife run off the Europe or somewhere.

I just love you IMDB individuals who take pride in being patronizing douchebags.
Love your dress , hope you win!

Then tell us: What do you want? You don't like it. Great. You don't have to like it. I like it. Many of us do.

So now what? Am I supposed to apologize?

Oh no, you're far more patronizing than I am - you're definitely going to win. I'm probably just going to get crowned Miss Congeniality or something...

Seriously though - you don't like the show, I get that. I've voiced my dislike of other shows in the past as well. That's all good, everyone needs to vent every now and again. But why keep coming back here to shake your cane at it instead of, ya know, finding something else to watch that you might actually enjoy? Didja get too many downvotes at reddit or something?

Atrocious is another word I would use for it. Disjointed plots, this thing has no real flow; on occasion it has made me laugh but most of the time it's just puzzling that whoever writes this thinks they are funny. Or that the characters are anything other than obnoxious and weird.

I get the impression that the appeal of being a fan of this show is like being in on an inside joke.

reply

To each his/her own, I suppose, because that's the one thing I would NOT say about the show. I always felt that as animated TV comedies go, it has a very tight story and straightforward presentation of the plot -- like a traditional three-act TV comedy.

It's never felt disjointed, at least not to me. Sometimes a subplot runs concurrently with the main plot, but even then it's easy enough to follow the stories.

reply

Disjointed? Episodes like Christmas in the Car and Fort Night are as streamlined as can be.
