So what's the worst pain you've ever experienced?
Mine was when I had testicular torsion. It pretty much felt like I was being continuously hit in the crotch for two hours.

shareIf I'm being honest, rehab. Detoxification from opiates. Painful.
shareWatching this $h1tty movie all the way through.
shareWhat a great and disturbing thread!
Mine is labor, had it for 48 hours with my first son and for several hours on and off during having a placenta accreta.
the rest in no particular order:
faceplant: slipped on ice and landed on my face on a brick wall, bending my back in the wrong direction at the same time. I yelled a LOT, back calmed down pretty quickly but I split my lip in 2 places (inside and outside) and abraded my chin, cheek, and forehead.
gallstones, I disagree with the poster who felt that was worse than labor, just goes to show we are all different! They are really bad though- my liver swelled to twice the normal size and it felt like my bottom rib was made out of broken glass.
Abscessed tooth was so bad at one point I was taking my opiates that were supposed to be every 4 hours, every hour, did not care if I died or not just had to take one to (slightly) dull the pain! I even had to turn off the TV because the light and sound of it seemed like jackhammers.
when I was about 10 my sister shut my hand in the car door, I remember the pain actually turning to a sort of weird pleasure (felt like being high) lol she and my mom did not know why I was screaming, they couldn't see what had happened because I was standing in the way... so I stayed trapped in the door while they tried to figure it out! lost a fingernail afterwards.
Burns... worked for years in restaurants and I have several burn stories, the worst are with hot oil from a fryer, but all second degree burns are horrific.
Other stuff, appendicitis, broken baby toe, broken tailbone, was at a slightly lower level. Glad I never had to CUT OFF MY OWN ARM... shudder.
Reach out your hand, if your cup be empty
if your cup is full, may it be again
Here's the things that have happened to me that I pray to god I never have to experience again:
*Depression. People may think they know what it's like. But until you experience it (well at my level) no one has a clue. It's not just having low energy and would rather sleep than socialise or something. It's a serious ILLNESS. It's hard to imagine but you feel SICK. Sick 24/7. No relief from anything, no satisfaction, no laughing, no relaxing, no pleasure, no intermissions, can't focus (because you're only focused on feeling so awful). You know you're alive, but you dont feel alive. You live with no soul or heart. You tend to eat more junk food cos it's literally the only pleasure you get from life. So its so tempting, but it makes you worse in the long run. I wouldnt torture my worst enemies with depression if I could. It's a living hell.
*Recovering from overdosing on caffeine pills. Vomiting your guts up 24/7. No sleep. Big mistake that was.
Nothing else I've experienced comes close to those, especially depression. And I've smashed my head open a few times with things like a vase falling on my head, fell on a huge bolt coming out of a fence etc. Thats like kicking your toe in comparison. If I had a choice of cutting off my arm like this guy or having depression for life? ARM OFF. In a heartbeat. Arm off like him or depression for a year? Hmmm now thats a tough one
No expectations, no disappointments.
Bee sting...
I've probably had worse but I remember that the most...
I had a very bad toothache for about 3-4 days. I had no idea what the problem was. But then a friend told me that I might need a root canal. She was right. I had to wait another few days before I had it done. The pain in the tooth would come and go. When the pain was there it was almost unbearable. I couldn't imagine going through that again.
shareHaving 9 stitches applied to my hand (along the pinky's metacarpal bone) with no anesthesia.
shareThe worst pain I have ever felt by far when I broke my right elbow last New Years Eve. I was riding my bike with my dad on a paved trail, and as we were going down a hill I saw a little boy bike rider with an older man- and the little boy very closely resembled my little brother; he even had the same shirt on that my brother owns. Caught off guard, I impulsively tried to slow down a little to get a better look at him. But without thinking, I accidentally engaged the front brake of the bike rather than the back. So in an instant, the velocity made me fly off my bike down the hill, and my elbow broke the fall, as it hit the pavement first and the rest of my body followed. Then the bike came crashing down on top of me. My dad came rushing over to me with an urgency I'd never seen him display before. Clearly he thought that I had died. In fact, I was so caught off guard by his reaction that the first thing I said to him was "I'm sorry" over and over, for making that stupid mistake. At the time we didn't know that it was broken, and our only way back was to ride our bikes, so I rode my bike for about 20 minutes until we got home, with a broken elbow. Not to mention that both my arms and legs were scraped up pretty badly. So when we got home, dad set to work putting neosporin on me and bandaging me up. I was in SUCH writhing pain that I physically could not sit still; it was like my whole body was convulsing. We proceeded to head to the urgent care, and it was then that I realized I could not extend my right arm staight out. After I got my sling, we all proceeded to head to a hotel for New Years, because everyone still wanted to celebrate. And I remember that initially I could not move my arm for any length of time, so I had to get my younger sister to undress me and dress me. I'm usually very modest and private, so I was not thrilled that she got to see me naked, but she didn't care.
That was probably my worst pain. Short of that, period cramps tend to flat out suck!
But clearly no pain I have experienced could ever rival Aron Ralston's. He is a true survivor.
When I was in elementary school I fell down some stairs and not only broke my arm, but my hand conveniently got stuck in some barbed wire on the way down and the skin was split apart on my hand like a banana, so I could see parts of the bone.
That's to say I didn't even notice at first, but when I saw the bloody stump that was once my hand I fainted from shock and was brought to a hospital where they patched me up and put bandage over it.
I didn't feel anything at the time, but the subsequent changing of the bandages was horrible - the blood went into the cloth and they had to rip away while reopening my wounds again and again while I screamed from the excruciating pain.
Today my hand may be pretty darn scarred and not as strong as my right one, but I can use it normally.
There was this one time when I broke my molar tooth on a piece of bone...
I can rank mine:
1) Kidney stones - A lot of people laugh at me when I admit this because I'm so young, but it can attack anyone at any age. Those who have had them don't find it so funny. A 3mm stone is not meant to go through a fleshy tube that is less than 1mm in diameter, and it hurts like hell! It woke me up in the middle of the night, made me sick, and then I passed out. I was in pain for a whole week. Thank goodness my family was around because I had a difficult time moving on my own.
2) Divorce - Nothing hurts quite like someone promising to be with only you forever, then a few weeks later he's sleeping with someone else. He also blamed the infidelity on me because I got mad that he wouldn't wash the stinking dishes when I had a migraine (spoiler!). The separation was a slow, year-long extraction of my broken heart, and it really hits the bank account hard too!
3) Chronic migraines - I've had these since I was 16. Some I can manage to work through, but some felt like they were going to kill me. Stay hydrated, people!
4) Menstrual cramps – Guys laugh if you will, but we do go into labor ever few weeks. But, from what I’ve been told it still isn’t as bad as natural child birth.
You can't take the sky from me.
