Watched in cinema last night n loved it 1 of best horrors in a long time

reply

Agreed. Too bad it's fashionable to hate everything now.

reply

What does that even mean? You don't think negative opinions should exist?

reply

You must be one of those trendy nay sayers.

reply

I went to see Blair Witch because I love the original. Me not liking this new one has nothing to do with being trendy. I didn't even hate it, enjoyed parts of it. Kindly pull your head out of your butthole.

reply

Well the guy isn't talking about you is he, he means people that hate for the sake of it.

reply

Is that a real thing? People are allowed to hate movies as much as they to love them. I guess you're just referring to trolls.

reply

Pretentious contrarians do exist, but it's also fashionable to accuse everyone you disagree with of being one.

reply

It means that it's fashionable to hate things these days. A lot of people on this forum hates it because it's found footage. Well yea, of course it's found footage. People that know they hate this genre go to watch the movie just to bitch about it being a found footage.

While I think this is true, the screening I attended had many people laughing derisively at some of the big scenes. I'm sorry that I don't find flying tents, people purposely scaring each other in the dark, a person climbing a tree, and emaciated old ladies to be scary.

Men's rights in modern English translates to: "unsuccessful with women" or the Hebrew "cupcake"

Gave it an 8

reply

Gave it a 4. There were a few scary scenes. There were jump scares, a lot if damn jumps scares, but nothing really scary other than the main girl crawling in the tunnel, which was mainly pandering to claustrophobic fears.

Everything was way too predictable, the jump scares were predictable, the hand coming out of the trees was predictable, the bug twist ending regarding the video that sent them to the Forrest was predictable.

A bad film can be enjoyable, there's plenty of bad films I've enjoyed and there's plenty of great films that I haven't enjoyed watching. Unfortunately, for me at least, this was a bad film that was not enjoyable.

reply

The first one doesn't even have a 6.5 rating.

reply

It wasn't terrible, but it was messy. It also contained annoying fecking jump-scares, too. My pet hate when it comes to horror films.
I gave it a 6. And most of that grade is based on the last 10 minutes.

Yup, exactly. Awkward pacing and lack of tension were big problems with this movie as well. I also gave it a 6.

reply

It was as if the filmmakers thoughts were...

"What was scary about the first film? Oh! When the kids were running through the woods at night!!"

They then proceeded to give us practically an entire movie of nightime forest running, with a few pointless jump scares and exploding tents thrown in. Oh, and a time paradox! WTF?

Messy, lazy, silly and pointless. And not scary in the least.

3 out of 10.

Oh what a falling off was there

Fans of the original are putting a lot of hate into this movie just as fans of Ghostbusters did. BWP wasn't even THAT good. It was a decent movie with a lot of intrigue built around and it, but it wasn't great. Boring for the most part, but at least this movie added to the intrigue and was genuinely terrifying (even after reading many spoilers.) I thought I wouldn't like it even after not caring much for the first or BoS, but I thought this one was fun and thrilling. I'm not going to change anyone's mind, but it deserves a better rating.

reply

I think that comment's a tad unfair.
The original Blair Witch was a good film, IMO. It also had the advantage of being one of the first movies in the found footage genre. A genre which has now been grossly overused.
This Blair Witch brought nothing new. The last ten minutes were genuinely scary, but other than that, it was average at best. It also didn't help the characters were annoying.
And the remake of Ghostbusters was meh. The original was a great film.

Explain cinema score of D+ ? what's going on ?

reply

I was actually surprised it wasn't lower. It was a disgrace to the original, and one of the worst horror movies I've ever seen.

reply

Come on it was not that bad.

reply

One of the worst horrors you've ever seen? Ridiculous. You obviously have not seen blair witch 2, exorcist 2, tusk, jason x, the remake of psycho, i know who killed me, the happening, i still know what you did last summer, scream 3, dracula 2000, alone in the dark, the haunting - and those are well known ones- there a literally hundreds of low budget really bad horrors released every year.
Get real mate.

reply

You clearly haven't seen very many horror movies, kwod. There are some steaming piles out there.

Not to say this was a great movie though... It certainly wasn't anything better than middling paint-by-numbers horror.
