Why would Heather still be alive?

Honestly I didn't ask myself this until the movie ended. But it's been over 10 years since she went missing... How would she survive without food?

I'm open to an explanation or two.

And why didn't he believe that the witch is a real thing after watching the video? How much of the documentary did he see? Because as soon as he sees the hanging stick symbols he's ready to leave. Did he not see that part of the doc?

Again, I'm open to an explanation or two.

To aide the plot.

I think it was the witch luring him into the woods............

this is a very stupid plot point. it made no sense. it was irrational.

I cant believe the studio actually greenlit this idea, wtf where they thinking ?

If someone was keeping her there and feeding her. One room has a mattress and portable toilet.

He had zero reasonable expectation for his sister to be alive. He was also far too young to have such a strong attachment that like 20 years later he can't accept her death. It was stupid, and the fact he repeated it like twice within 5 minutes at the end was really annoying.

If the time disturbance was real, Heather could be alive and even young. Presuming that time flows differently in this place.

And obviously its asking a lot but there was no mention of a brother when Heather was saying her "sorry's" to the camera. Sorry mom, and dad, but no one else. You would think if she had a 4 year old brother at the time there would be some mention.

Its just a bad way to connect two movies like others have said.

Its nearly impossible to do unless the original movie is set up to have a sequel.

Prequel was the way to go or atleast they could've used a different angle besides family. These kids could've just been big fans of the original 3 students and went into the woods to try and find them. Didnt need to be a family angle twist to it.

I was thinking the same thing only go back further to when the witch was a live person, show her becoming whatever she ended up being---and throw in some of Rustin Parr's shenanigans. They could've done something with a prequel that would have made a whole lot more sense than the silly mess they ended up with. Or even as you said, not use the hard to believe family angle & just send in some curiosity seekers.

There have been real-life cases when missing persons are found alive, freed from captivity, or just come back. (Not too long ago, I heard about a woman who disappeared many years ago, was thought murdered by her husband, who was never charged, but was found alive in another state with another family.) No doubt such cases would fuel James' (and family members of missing loved ones) hopes.
