What would happen if Someone Rebuked the Witch in the Name of God?

Just saying this because in both The Quran/Koran and The Holy Bible there are many accounts of evil spirits being cast out in the Name of God, Rebuking them and causing them to flee.

https://www.openbible.info/topics/casting_out_demons

So logically if a group of Christians or even Muslims were trapped in the Woods by the Witch they could just start Rebuking the Witch in the Name of God and she being an evil spirit would be forced to flee and go away, her power over them would be shattered and they could escape the woods and get home.

There you have it, just bring God into the woods, scream Gods Name at the Witch, command her to flee, even if one was an atheist it might be worth a shot, the Witch was an evil spirit haunting the woods, she would be subject to Gods authority and power and forced to flee if someone invoked Gods Name.

And the fact that the Witch existed in the spirit realm kind of proves that there must be a God, otherwise how could spirits exist?

reply

Well...if the ending is anything to go by the aliens would show up and abduct everybody anyway so I suppose it doesn't really matter. 

reply

I remember that scene. They probably deleted it a. to avoid making a religious film, and b. because calling on God might actually defeat the Blair Witch, and they didn't want the characters making it out alive.

reply

there is no god

Must be nice to be so sure about something that cannot be proven either way...

This signature really brings the room together, Does It Not?

Oh, how I just love that you bring logic into this fantasy discussion. The correct answer: nothing would happen as neither witches nor gods exist. And why on earth would the witch respond only to the religions of those lost? Saying atheists should give it a shot is beyond contempt so I won't even address that.

Also, why just the Abrahamic god? Isn't Ganesh the one that removes obstacles? And Aradia the one that governs witches? Those two would be my sure bet. You don't really need the god of infanticide when lost in the woods, do you?

bingo...

I dunno why you guys are getting your panties in a twist about people discussing theories on a discussion board. What really eludes me is why you both are all over these boards when you're both clearly too cool to discuss anything outside of real life. All you seem to be doing is ridiculing people involving a movie you don't like. Seriously, this is what your gonna spend your precious time doing? XD

reply

Oh yeah, of course!

Me and a friend were discussing the ways in which the Blair Witch could be defeated, and we came up with nothing solid. Reading this, I feel like an idiot. Calling on God is the only way to defeat something Satanic, as the Blair Witch clearly overpowers anyone and everyone who enters her realm.

There was even a deleted scene in The Blair Witch Project where Mike tried to show faith in God and pray to Him. Heather didn't believe in God, and the same logic of "if you believe in witches you gotta believe in God" was used.

reply

Fun fact: did you know Catholics aren't supposed to believe in ghosts? I found that pretty ironic.

reply

Really? So why do they always recite the Father, Son, and Holy "Ghost" in prayer?

reply

I asked the same thing. Apparently being a ghost is only a luxury of the holy spirit, one of the three things that make up God as his whole self. Apparently the dead appearing to us in the living realm is a power only god has, and anything like a ghost would contradict and disrepect and for lack of a better word, "cheapen" the power of the almighty. I'm not saying it makes sense. lol

reply

Actually, that makes perfect sense. Lucifer is essentially a "perverse" angel, and his realm is a twisted version of Heaven, which inherently mocks God's sovereignty. Plus, all the agents of Hell are self-conscious about this, so they can only feel powerful themselves when they feed off of people's fear. Against God, their creator, they're powerless.

That's likely what got Heather, Josh, and Mike trapped in the woods, or rather, why they couldn't find their way out of the woods. They let their fear overwhelm them, and didn't know what to do or who to call on to counter that fear. So the Blair Witch feeds on the fear of those who don't know God.

It's kind of telling in the early scene where Heather interviews that one old man who says he is a Bible-believing, church-going man, and she says "Alrighty" in a very dismissive way.

>the Witch existed in the spirit realm kind of proves that there must be a God,
Key word there is "a"
A god probably exists in this world, but that doesn't mean it's the kind of god you'd want to invoke even if you could. It would probably just make things worse, especially if the witch is an emissary of that god.

reply

Blair Witch Project was made to be realistic, so their world is our world. As a Christian I can tell you there is a God. There is also a god of this world (satan), and if you aren't Christian and you pray to god you aren't going to be praying to God the Father, you'll be praying to Satan unless you have repented of your sins and accepted Jesus. Just some info for those who don't believe.

reply

Hard truth. Honestly, it's kind of awesome that we're having this kind of conversation about a horror film.

reply

Yes, and as someone who believes in Azathoth I can tell you there is a god and he is terrible. You'd have to be a idiot to pray to the god I believe in because the best case scenario is he destroys you utterly when he wakes.

I thought of this thread when I found a book series called "Love-Inspired Suspense." Because earlier, I mentioned that no one ever seems to rebuke anything with God, despite it being quite common in real life where I live.

You can find information here ... http://www.harlequin.com/store.html?cid=359 ... or on Google.

Basically, from what I can tell, the protagonist escapes a murderer by praying to God and having faith in God, et cetera.

Or, as Harlequin says, "You enjoy a dash of danger. Love Inspired Suspense stories feature strong heroes and heroines whose faith is central in solving mysteries and saving lives."

I wonder if prayer works if someone is trying to kill you in the name of God.

someone should set the forest on fire, since that is where she derives most of her power.
then hide out in the creek... a deep part with running water... cos witches can't cross running water... they have to really watch their salt intake too.
problem solved!
