Is it possible to slide down the cylinder part of the tower?

The upper part of the tower is cylinder, that is the only challenge. I wonder if they could use this technique to slowly slide down:

For safety, they should go down part by part:
Step 1. Tie one end of the rope tightly to the cylinder
Step 2. One girl slides down one foot and ties the other end of the rope to the cylinder
Step 3. The other girl above loosens the top node and slides to the bottom node.
Step 4. Repeat Step 2

Was thinking the same thing when I watched this

Gotta remember these kinds of movies are about morons for morons.

1).What happens when they reach obstacles in the pole, like the satellite dish where the blonde chick died?

2). This method may require too much upper body strength for these 2 girls

reply

The girls single handedly pulled each other up on various occasion. Their upper body strength in this movie world was fine.

Also this technique involves mostly leg strength.

A slippery, super smooth pole? I don't think so.

Man Climb pole only using a rope https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-FGax-3-GCk

reply

That pole is wood with pegs(?) jutting out for foot placement, not a slippery metal pole heated by the desert sun.

This video is clearer:

It looks like a lot of training and special equipment involved. Not something to do for the first time 2,000 ft. above ground by sleep-deprived and weakened amateurs.

reply

With tight enough roping, a slowed down slide is possible - but there are things sticking out on one side of the pole (they can be visible in some early scenes - even after the latter collapse.

reply

You mean the woman's rope could get stuck on what's sticking out of the pole 2,000 ft. above ground? The platform sounds safer.

reply

Boob girl had a lot of experience with sliding down slippery, super smooth poles. If you know what I mean.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Short answer: you're right. I immediately flashed to this solution because one of the chapters in Vance's (AMAZING) novel "The Eyes of the Overworld" puts the protagonist in this same dilemma; he gets out of it precisely in the manner you describe.

(FWIW: HIGHLY recommended; it's one of my all time favorite books.)

If it was thinner and you could get your arms around it. Since it is quite rusty, that would help for grip. But, it's just too wide around.

reply

I guess one could attempt to use the rope to complete the distance around. I don't know how that person would get past the satellite or if the rope would last long enough to reach the ladder below.

I can see them working together to rope shimmy from the top platform to the large dishes. How would you then get the rope secure around the tower below the dishes? Still over 100 feet to go to get to the lower platform. Could the drone be able to take the weight of part of the rope and use the drone to circle the tower below the dishes? Maybe the drone could loop the shoe laces around the tower. Once you have a loop around attach the rope to the lace and pull the rope around. They should have saved the lace from the dropped shoe. They could cut Beck's hair to pieces and tie the pieces to the shoe lace and then use the drone to loop around. Imagine trying to do all that while sitting on that dish!

reply

I'm sure sitting there would be pretty awful.
