Blonde chick should have been the protagonist

She was more heroic, she remained even-keeled, she inadvertently sacrificed herself to get the bag (which eventually get the lead actress home). The lead actress was frustrating coward, saying “I can’t do this!” from the very beginning

I think if they wanted a twist, have the lead actress die and the blonde chick survive

She also didnt ostracize everyone around herself and drank herself silly for a year.

Well i think the blonde cheated on the others husband and then disappeared for a year. Looks like shes cowardly but realized it was a huge mistake and she was really sorry. So in a way her sacrificial behavior showed her regrets.

I think you put more thought into this than the movie writers did.

Well, the movie was about facing your fears and appreciating life again so it makes sense to have Becky be the protagonist. Hunter was the driving force for Becky to motivate her to change her outlook on life. Had the twist been Hunter surviving it would have been a tragedy rather than a movie about hope. Even taking this into consideration, the movie doesn't pretend that Becky was more heroic than Hunter. Without Hunter, Becky might have never changed and continued to drown in her sorrows so you could see it as Hunter sacrificing her life to save Becky (even if it's unintentional) and that can be seen as heroic.

Totally!
