Look like another bullshit spy action film
And it seems getting more and more ludicrous.
shareLooks good imho
shareReally? One guy killing a lot of soldiers without using guns? That was in the trailer.
And you think that is believable?
No! However, production quality trumps suspension of disbelief.
shareReally? Looks like another copy of generic action film, like "nobody", "equalizer" and countless others before, not even that different from early Stallone films such as 'Cobra' in the 80s, in fact I think the dialogue was straight out of that film ("When police/the law fails, that is when I take over").
shareProbably a hybrid script. I like David Ayer work.
shareI can see the “stallone” inspiration in the trailer. Most people who are watching this have never even seen Cobra.
shareBut they must have watched the equalizer series before if they are going to watch this, this looks like just a variation of it, as unoriginal as an action movie can be.
shareI agree! It’s unoriginal but most one man army films are. I’m also thinking The Cartel by Don Winslow where Art Keller is a beekeeper.
shareSome of them are great, like Jason Statham's Wrath of Man. I like that one a lot, I think it was clever and original. You still get the feeling you watched something similar before, but probably not going to be able to pinpoint which one.
Unlike this one, I kind of can see it coming a mile away.
Action movies have never been believable. One man doing crazy, unbelievable shit is a staple of the genre.
shareBasically it is all ludicrous, the plotting gets even more so as it goes on. But Statham is great and its easy to laugh with it.
If anyone's interested, I reviewed the movie on my youtube channel. Appreciate any feedback. Trying to improve - https://youtu.be/fSRMzgVJMQ4
Oh, c'mon----it's a Jason Statham flick. Of course it's gonna make no damn sense, and everybody in it exists just long enough for him to fck up on the spot. All I want to know is, if the action's good, lol. Plus I love some spy films, so this sounds like something I'd like to see.
shareAlso it looks oddly unfinished from the explosion in the trailer.
shareLMAO...FUCK NO...THAT LOOKS AWESOME!!@!@
shareI almost skipped the title of your post until I saw the word "spy", my preferred genre.
Based on the trailer, it looks like a watchable film.
"And it seems getting more and more ludicrous."
I dont know about this film , buit if there is such an "arms race" for FX , car chases , fight scenes then yes it'll soon get over the top.
Good films will have a balance , not just "turn it up to 11"
John Wick and FastFurious seem to have gone with the "more is more" philosophy, to their detriment
What is this "detriment" you speak of? Do you somehow think they're setting out to make nuanced, deeply philosophical films?
John Wick continues to scale up, and each installment does better than the previous.
Fast & Furious X did the worst, with disappointing returns. . .but you could easily point to bloated budgets for that.
Conclusion: you CANNOT blame any sort of "more is more" philosophy. There are MUCH more subtle reasons why one franchise continues to succeed, and the other is not scaling the way the studio hoped. Keep in mind, the movie DID make SEVEN HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS.
I have specific expectations of a Jason Strahan movie, and this one met them.
