Part 2 of 3? Or will this finish Book 1?
Any indication whether this is the next third of the book, or whether this will fit in everything left after Movie Part 1?

shareI think this will conclude the first book. I recall them talking about adapting other books for a franchise.
shareThis is supposed to end book 1. But I would truly be surprised if they don't end up shooting a massive production and splitting it in two to make a Dune trilogy to stand amongst the likes of Star Wars and LOTR.
shareThey're are reportedly going to adapt 'Dune: Messiah' for a prospective trilogy.
shareThis film will be the second half of book 1. There have been hints that they will make two more films based on the books that came afterwards and turn it into a trilogy, but that all depends on the success of this film.
And to be fair, the story becomes very depressing in the book sequels, so it's hard to say if any sequels will succeed. After all, if the sci-fi channel's "Children of Dune" miniseries was a forgettable flop, I don't want to know if it's any better with a more accurate movie retelling.
The books just get weirder and weirder. You'd have to alter them quite a bit to turn them into marketable movies.
shareA lot of people would be creeped out by Leto II (Paul's son) turning into a giant sandworm/human hybrid, marrying his twin sister Ghanima (but no sex), and letting her have a male consort to bear heirs. In fact, he spent the next 300 years doing the Dr. Who thing with his relationships (while guiding humanity on the Golden Path) and having one platonic girlfriend after another, and his last one murdered him.
I remember reading that both were born the same way their aunt Alia was; their minds fully awakened at birth and having access to both male and female ancestral memories. They had to use the memory/personality of their mother, Chani, to keep the others at bay so they could retain their own personalities and not become Abominations.
