Is anyone here from the old imdb board?

Do you remember the classics?
Ed Peletier appreciation threads
What did Jenner whisper in Rick's ear? threads.
Who mows the grass?
He talked about the deer!

Why don't they run them over by cars?
An in depth analysis of the Alexandrian wall supports

So many great threads. I miss the good old days.

I think most of those posts are still here. There's about 200 ÷ pages here imported from the old IMDB board. ;)

Over on the Breaking Bad board, you can still find the infamous Ultimate Hippo's mutiple tirades about Hank plus numerous others he has made since then with a new username

Unfortunately, they were all purged well before imdb got shut down. This board's archive goes back to page 238, which is season 7 already.

You can see here on page 234, the discussion on the shutdown begins, meaning only 4 pages prior to the imdb shutdown are available - and it's all troll posting.

I forgot about the engineering analysis of the Alexandrian wall. I was going to look over the calculations, but the thread must have gotten buried under all the troll posts.

The board here goes back 4 years & 238 pages ( up to apx.2-3 months before the shutdown) ; I'm surprised the Admins here kept a lot of these troll posts when they imported the old IMDB board. Somewhere in the middle of the pack (I think it starts around page 160) there is page after page of threads with the same thread title posted over & over for like 30÷ pages!!

reply

imdb purged a lot of that even before they shutdown and yet so many of troll posts remain, as you point out. There was no rhyme nor reason to it. There were boards that lost their entire post history even though it was small and others like this one that went back hundreds of pages. It wasn't based on time or size or anything we could determine.

reply

I remember when that happened, but the 2016 Ghostbusters board made this one look tame.

reply

I was a part of that board. I liked the first season- I hated all the rest. I stuck in there until the second season of the Negan wars, but midway through it I gave up. I kept waiting for the show to get good again, but it never did.

TWD boards were pretty unpleasant. I remember primarily the hate threads about Lori, Rick's wife. It was disgusting , and that tendency for a bug of misogynist boys to hate their mommies and take it out on female stars, like Lori Grimes, or Skylar White, etc.

I mostly remember the IMDB boards from a long, long time ago before it was all taken over by trolls ... before everything was taken over by trolls. They ought to be a law, find a troll, kill a troll - do a public service.

reply

I agree that originally IMDB was much better. I started posting on there around 1999-2000. I use to look forward to all of the great conversation and movie analysis. Unfortunately, around 2010 it became a nightmare. I will admit though that some of the trolls were funny. However, most were annoying. As for Lori, her character was poorly written. She was extremely unlikable. So, I understood the hate that she got. Who was Skylar White? I don't recognize that name.

reply

Remember Walter White

I never watched breaking bad. so, I didn't know who dither of them were.

reply

walking dead is a spinoff from Breaking Bad.

The trolls from imdb ended up over on filmboards dot com

Amazingly, they are all still posting the exact same stupid stuff. Just tons of garbage posts. The names are all instantly recognizable as well.

The most annoying to me were the ones that posted multiple posts, all with the same subject, just with one word changed. Pages of that stuff.

Yeah, I just found that site & it's still the same old trolls from the IMDB TWD board, posting the same flame war off topic crap like before. I did manage to find a few of my old IMDB posts (with a slightly different user name) that didn't get archived on this site. Still, they only go back to 2015 (I joined IMDB in 2005, but didn't really begin posting to the boards until 2010), and there is still a lot of my posts missing.

reply

Theres an entire season of Southpark about trolls and trolling season 20, was actually kind of epic!

reply

My favorite thread was the one that had people telling their own versions of how a dumpster saved Glenn from being devoured by the zombie horde. The stories were hilarious! 😂

reply

Is that thread still archived? I would love to read that. There is another site that saved all of the threads from imdb, but I can't remember the name of it.

reply

Sadly I have not been able to find it. It's definitely not here and I've checked several other IMDB archive sites and have had no luck ☹

reply

The only other site that archived the IMDB boards that I know of is this one-
https://www.themoviedb.org/

However, as someone above pointed out, IMDB purged a lot of these posts prior to the shutdown, so I doubt they go any further back than this one.

The best bet is probably the Internet Archive Wayback Machine site,

THANK YOU. YOU HAVE BEEN VERY HELPFUL.

I remember a long-haired middle-aged redneck who was a little too invested in the show.

reply

LOL What was the user name?

reply

I forgot but he had a moustache, and he always went on and on about what he would do in any given character's situation.

reply

I'm not sure how this just occurred to me, but the Winfield_Browne guy had this effect. He seemed to be universally hated.

If this is the guy that I think it is, it's a shame that all of those old posts got deleted.

The TWD board was a lot of fun in the early seasons. The "napping zombies" controversy, that "Ed's Revenge" video someone put together, the timeline issues, parachuting zombies, etc.. I became sort of the arch-critic of the show over that time and my reviews, which, over the years, addressed it from just about every conceivable angle, would end up generating hundreds of responses. It was great fun.

I guess "HE TALKED! ABOUT! THE DEER!" will never not be funny.

The mental gymnastics required for the fanboys to justify the nonsense that happened in this show was endless entertainment.
