I really don't understand why it is hated soo much

I heard a lot of bad reviews, it sounded like it's the one of the worst movies ever. Well, it's definitely not The Godfather, it's more like an okay movie, but all in all I was entertained by it. I liked the characters, the story was simple, there was even some humour in it, and the CGI was okay, it definitely wasn't actively bad.
I gave the movie a 6 out of 10.

Is anyone on a similar opinion?

reply

Its worse than a made for TV SyFy movie, film makes no sense...and a black Torch lmao

reply

Just watched it and this is worse than that CW network garbage made for brainless teens. 1/10 this is really bad with no entertainment value. A least batman and robin will make you laugh a few times.

reply

The movie sucks because it is poorly written, full of stupid characters making stupid mistakes( Reed and Ben's Teacher played by Homer Simpson deserves a Darwin Award for dismissing their teleportation project I say), filmed, edited, acted, and staged. It is also a complete slap in the face of the source material and the many greats who left their stamp on the many years of comic history like Jack Kirby. And the CGI is beyond terrible, so many scenes have the most obvious greenscreen shots I've seen in a major motion picture.

It was hated on for good reason well before it came out - It was a cash grab that was rushed into production to keep the rights away from Marvel, the director they hired was a lazy douche who insulted fans whenever he saw fit to do so( Way to get your film anticipated, my friend), and the Cronenberg-ian body horror take was unwelcomed for this franchise.

So it's not The Godfather, no sh!t it's not most movies aren't but that doesn't mean they have to be bad either.

reply

Well if i would watch the movie through the eyes of a 12-year-old again, maybe I would be astonished too. Oh wait, whats the movie rated? PG-13... there you go.

reply

Pretty sure most of the criticism stems from people griping about a black actor playing the Human Torch. Plenty of boo-hoo-ing right after this movie was released.

Most of that was before the movie was released. After it was released, it was clear the movie was huge steaming turd.

reply

It had nothing to do with having 'Black' Characters in the movie. Nick Fury was traditionally a 'White' Character in the comic books but in the movies they casted Samuel L. Jackson, a 'Black' man, and no one gave a 'Shi*' that they casted a 'Black' man into a traditionally 'White' man's character. So Stop using the 'Race' card. It wasn't about 'racial' characters but about how terrible the storyline was.

Let me help you out with that.

Any questions?

Just to put things in perspective; you are lobbying for the movie and gave it 6 out of 10. If you scored 6 out of 10 on a test, you failed.

I didn't think it was an awful movie. In fact, the biggest strike against it, in my opinion, was marketing it as "The Fantastic Four". Take away the expectation of it being a comic book movie based on characters who have been around for over 50 years and it's an enjoyable sci-fi movie.

reply

Finally seen it.

Started strong. Could not understand why it was being panned by everyone. Perfect set up.

After they get their powers the movie slowly loses the plot. The limitations leak in in the second act and the final act is a disaster.

They should have left Doctor Doom on the other world and saved him for the sequel.

Not sure what I would I would have done to make the film better.

Any Suggestions?

Heres one:

An escape film. Reed and Sue convince Ben and Johnny to escape. We'd get some nice romance between Reed and Sue and we'd get to see Ben and Reed's friendship payoff. Maybe Franklin and Johnny Storm's relationship is repaired - make Franklin's death actually mean something.

Ben has to destroy the "Quantum Gate" to prevent the military from creating super soldiers but in the process Ben has to remain a monster.

They end the film on the run.

Second film?
Maybe some outer space adventure? Defeat some bad guy and win back the faith of the government. Become successful and happy.

Save Doom for the third film. When he returns Sue and Reed are engaged, happy and successful. Ben has Alicia and is a little more at peace with being The Thing and Johnny is Johnny. Doom is jealous and so he plots their downfall. In the last ten minutes after Doom is defeated the Silver Surfer arrives on the scene to tease the fourth film. NEVER MAKE THE FOURTH FILM. Just end on that tease.

A question for Marvel Comics fans as I'm not that familiar with the comics.

Aside from Dr. Doom and Galactus who are the Fantastic Four's rogues gallery?

And more importantly which of those villains belong to Fox?

It seems like a shallow pool to draw from not longterm franchise building stuff.

reply

The thing about the FF is, their rogues gallery pretty much became integrated with the Marvel universe at large. Many of the most famous characters got their start in the pages of the Fantastic Four.

In the kingdom of the blind, you're the village idiot.

...who are the Fantastic Four's rogues gallery?

Well at the end of the day, it's all personal opinion. For me, the movie lacked action, humour, a cohesive plot. The movie was edited very poorly. It felt as though entire scenes were cut out. By the looks of things by searching around, it looks as though scenes were taken out. What was supposed to be a 2hr 20 long movie, turned into a 1hr 30 movie. There was ZERO chemistry between any of the actors, and the movie just came off as too dark and grim. It works for Batman, but for Fantastic 4, not so much. But like I say it's all personal opinion. What one person likes, another person hates. It's what keeps the world interesting I guess.

reply

I think it shows that "dark and grim" isn't really what a mainstream comic book movie should be about. Not that it has to be bright and happy, but grim and morose is a killer as well.

They also effed with the story too much. I don't mind tweaking a few things here and there. Like, in the first FF movie I was fine with them getting zapped upon on Doom's space station instead of just being in a rocket. But messing with their ages, relationships, personalities, etc.

And, why do they have to keep effing with Doom and his powers? Why do they have to keep making him have "living metal" instead of a super powered suit?

reply

Them making Doom living metal shows they don't get what makes Doom tick. He chose to put on a suit of armor and a mask. He had a scar, and instead of getting it fixed, he covered it up with armor and lived in it. He even made it worse with putting a red-hot mask on his face. It says a lot about his mental state that just turning him into metal doesn't.

What we see and what we seem are but a dream. A dream within a dream.

reply

Exactly. I remember when (I believe it was Sue) saw his scar and said it wasn't that bad.

But, he's nuts and a genius. He and Tony were stuck somewhere and had to work together, and both (to themselves) complimented each other on how intelligent they were.
