They should have used James Gandolfini for the main role

I haven't seen the movie yet and I have nothing against Michael Shannon but if I were to cast an actor to portray Richard Kuklinski, I would have chosen James Gandolfini for the role. He looks like him and we all know he can be a bad ass in his movies.

Any thoughts?

I understand why you would want James Gandolfini, OP. I also noticed the resemblance and similar voice. But I think the reason it wouldn't have worked is because James Gandolfini was a a star of an iconic character of an iconic TV show.

Michael Shannon is perfect because people aren't watching him while comparing him to previous roles and the actor isn't that well known or recognizable. When he's on screen, you just see Kuklinski.

That is thinking outside the box!

Having just watched The Iceman I was surprised by how much Michael Shannon acted and sounded like Richard Kuklinski.

I think he did a good job. I wouldn't have liked seeing that guy from that gangster series doing the role. I just would've thought of that gangster series.

I had to kill Bob Morton because he made a mistake. Now it's time to erase that mistake

They sure should have.

No no no! Stop agreeing with him!

I don't think Gandolfini would have been a good choice for the role of Richard, my personal preference would be Vincent D'Onofrio.

reply

Yes I agree with Vincent. I believe he could have pulled it off.

Michael Shannon was perfect, the problem is the only tension in the whole film was the ridiculous family angle that was totally unbelievable. I've been married, there's no woman in the world that gullible.

Anything played wrong twice in a row is the beginning of an arrangement. FZ
