Just got back from seeing it. Loved it all the way.
I didn't think they would sing so much (I never watch musicals lol) but the songs are all very good and some are even among the best songs I've ever heard.
Don't understand the 45 on Metacritic, even if you are usually not a fan of musicals, the story is still very good and gripping. Had me hooked till the end.
Most critics didn't like it because it ignores a lot of what made Barnum who he was. Basically the shrewd businessman side of things. He was more than this PG rated film would have you suggest. But I agree with you to. This is a wonderful movie with some of the best songs i've ever heard, certainly can't get out of my head. All sung fantastically. The costume and set design is terrific here too.
I'm trying to go for an engaging, funny youtube channel so, if you have the time, take a look. Hope you enjoy what you see and if you have any thoughts or criticisms, i'd love to hear them. Thanks in advance. A review of the movie here-https://youtu.be/8_-6y44Ueio
Sure, I get that point. But the movie isn't saying that what happens in the movie is an accurate retelling of historical events. What it does is it creates the setting and tries to tell the audience a message. It just uses historical events to convey this message. Wrapped up in a good musical with great songs. I just hope critics can look past all that, just like the critic in the movie. He failed to realize that even though what he saw might be 'fake' (just like events in this movie that didn't happen the way it happend) the smiles aren't fake, and the entertainment value is really good.
I kinda loved it a whole lot. Yes it is a 'PG', saccharine version of a darker tale, but it's lovable. And the story, acting and songs are all mesmerizing.
