Creative concept, but movie is too silly

It would of been better if they tried to take a more serious approach. It's just way too silly in a cheesy way for this movie to be good.

reply

It's a comedy. It's supposed to be absurd in order to be funny. :)

I thought a lot of it was just cheesiness, not actually comedy. But that's just me. An above average movie, but not executed good enough to be called a good movie.

reply

Not executed well enough? What movie were you watching? This movie was executed perfectly. Not often do you find a good horror comedy, especially these days.

I've never seen that. I've never seen anybody drive their garbage down to the street and bang the hell out of it with a stick. I-I've never seen that.

reply

It wasn't good. Nothing epic and wasn't that funny. It was cheesy, only thing it had going for it was the concept.

reply

You must have a horrible opinion of all movies in general if this is "above average", but not executed WELL enough to be called a "good movie".

What you just said makes no kind of sense.

The silliness was what I loved most about it. I'm still laughing about certain bits when I remember them now, a day later. I rented it and loved it so much I ordered a copy of my own :)

The lute is the coolest of all medieval stringed instruments.

reply

It would have been horrible if they had tried to take it seriously. The concept isn't unique or special outside of using it as a comedy. On the contrary, they did it perfectly. One of the few movies I watched on Netflix and then went out and bought it.

reply

Can you name a few movies that utilize the same concept as this one, that don't use it as a comedy?

reply

Yeah, the idea is great. It's not bad, but this could've been so much better/smarter.

reply

would have, not would of. You're welcome...

I would love a more subtle, believable comedic take on this idea.

reply

I thought the concept was totally cliché. A spoof on the classic teen slasher flicks. The creative brilliance was turning the tables on conventional roles. A comedy is such a natural vehicle for that. Yes, it's campy... it's supposed to be!

If they had tried something "less silly" or "more serious" then you would have been confused about what you were watching. Reviews would complain the movie couldn't make up it's mind what it wanted to be. People would say it's not funny enough to be a comedy and too unoriginal to be anything else.

To me, it was the combination of the stereotype.. campy, cheesy, silly, teens in the woods with the hillbillies horror flick, but with the complete role reversal of good and evil. The comedy lines are awesome and well timed, sometimes very subtly. I'm still laughing over "vacation home!"

reply

I agree. I don't generally like comedies - and I know that makes me not the movie's target audience - but I think it could have been much better as a serious deconstruction of the slasher genre, instead of a goofy movie filled with jokes.

Then you shouldn't be the one commenting on how the comedy didn't work.

and I know that makes me not the movie's target audience

So you are aware of this? This is where your post should have ended.

but...

Don't even finish that thought! You already admitted you weren't qualified.

Dammit!

I made all those disclaimers so that people like you would understand that you can freely ignore my comments, because I knew you wouldn't consider them relevant or worthwhile. And yet, here you are, reading them (and worse yet, telling me I shouldn't have ventured to comment). I'm sorry, but just because I don't like comedies doesn't mean I can't watch them, and think about how much better they'd be if they weren't comedies, and vocalize my opinions to that effect.

And if your comment was meant in jest, and I'm taking it way too seriously (I'm really not taking it as seriously as this comment probably makes it sound, because that's just the way I talk - er, write), then by all means, feel free to chalk it up to the vast difference in sensibilities between you and I (funny vs. serious). It's no skin off my back.

Just means you shouldn't. Why watch something you dislike and then complain about it?

I don't watch women's basketball. I don't enjoy it. I'm not going to watch it then complain how it should have been men playing. I'm just not going to watch it. I'm going to watch something else. Something I think I'll enjoy.

And if your comment was meant in jest,

It was tongue in cheek.....with some truth to it.

and I'm taking it way too seriously (I'm really not taking it as seriously as this comment probably makes it sound, because that's just the way I talk - er, write)

Comedies are not your cup of tea, which you freely admit. If you like serious movies then go watch serious movies.

reply

Ok, sounds like you were being more serious than I had hoped. Here's a shocker: I enjoyed this movie! I wasn't even complaining about it, I was just pontificating about how I would have liked to have seen something very much like it, but more serious. Don't worry, I watch tons of serious movies all the time. But I'm not going to let that - or you - stop me from occasionally watching a comedy from time to time, if I think I might enjoy it. (And I won't let that stop me from commenting if I don't enjoy it, either). Sheesh.

Whoa! Talk about a M Night Shamalamalinglong style twist!

Hate to break it to you, but that is what complaining is.

verb (used without object)
1.to express dissatisfaction, pain, uneasiness, censure, resentment, or grief; find fault:

Let's go with "find fault" on this one and call it a day.

Ok, sounds like you were being more serious than I had hoped.

I was far from serious. I had a few minutes of boredom to cure.

Let's just agree to disagree and go our separate ways. This stopped being fun 2 posts ago.

*EDIT: Does not shock me at all that you needed the last word. You do realize that talking last is not the same as being right, right?

Absolutely. Pity you didn't come to that conclusion 2 posts ago.

This movie would have failed miserably if they had done that.
