is indy a full time teacher
in this?
shareTypically in the sciences a professor is mostly a researcher whose main job is to do research that is new and unique enough in the field that it is worthy of publication and funding. The teaching of classes is of less importance and it is just an obligation that the college and department places upon them. It isn’t that they don’t teach but it is mainly in the form of guiding their graduate students in their research and not instructing classes. Often their graduate students teach the courses.
shareFor whatever likely Marion related reason, Indy left his cushy gig he had in the original movies. He moved to NYC and took some crappy teacher job and was probably bottom of the ladder there. I do believe that Indiana loved shaping minds, I don't think he was teaching just to fund his expeditions. So he probably didn't care where he was so long as he got to teach. I'm still skeptical such a talented man with such credentials could wind up in so sorry a position in life.
sharehis credentials were possibly sullied with the accusations of being a commiunist in 1957..
sharethat would have been an interesting story line. Indy got slimed with commie accusations and lost his job as associate dean over there at Marshal College. that's why he's doing this new low ball gig. build off the established lore.
shareIndy was working first at Marshall College (Raiders), moved then to Barnett College (Crusade) and likely after the death of Marcus back to Marshall College (Skull). Because of the shit happened at the start of the film and the red scare, Indy was fired during Skull.
New York was then likely chosen by Marion. As we know, Indy seems like he had some issues to get a new Job, as in his retirement party, the dean says, he was working 10 years for them, which makes his start in Summer 1959. Indy got force retired with 70, which he reached on July 1st 1969.
