Has streaming along with wokeness killed a lot of the theater movies?

1 The Super Mario Bros. Movie $1,341,130,092
2 Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 $838,588,974
3 Fast X $700,203,884
4 Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse $618m

Only 4 movies have broken the $600m minimum barrier for middle-high budget movies. Top Gun 2 saved the theaters and Avatar 2 brought it forward but now everything is starting to go downhill minus those new show exceptions like Mario or well established easy cash franchises (though Transformers under performed). Wonder if it's because the main protagonists are POC (animation are exceptions I think) or someone really old.

If they stopped making utter shit then I might go watch something in the cinema.

The last thing I bothered to go actually see on the big screen was Midsommar.

Joker in 2019 myself.

reply

I haven't been since 2019 either.

Midsommar was the second last movie I saw, the last was Terminator: Dark Fate.

Along with a new 3 Part twilight series.

Hollywood has had to chase the dragon for over a decade now. Ever since DVD started to die they 1st went with 3-D, then huge comic book tentpoles, now it's a combination of all sorts of tentpoles/animation/comic books/extravaganza.

Note this is the first time I've seen Hollywood actually scared since approx 2004, that's when Hollywood President Jack Valenti was worried DVD copying would ruin their business.

Yup. But I think this time theaters will be largely gone in approximately10-15 years. Most People only go to the movies if it's at least a big event special effects film and those have been over saturated the last 15 years. People are getting tired of them.

There's always the next generation of kids who hasn't got tired of cartoon characters fighting each other...

Maybe adults have just grown out of movies. Its not a good business to make expensive movies for lonely old farts like myself. Its much better (and easier) to make movies for kids, they bring friends and whole families with them to the cinema.
