This movie is not the worst, but as far as sci fi go, it's not very interesting either. Anybody can see its flaws. I would rate it a 5.
I can safely assume that any viewership comes from the nudity in it.
It's like THE movie with Scarlett naked in it.
Anybody here that watched this not knowing that but only because he was attracted by other aspects of it?
If so, what cought your attention?
And were you surprised once you saw her naked in it?
I like Scarlett, she's a decent actress. She could do better too.
Anyway, I'm curious to know what you thought when you realized she was totally naked on screen.
That would have been a crazy surprise to me, to see an A list celebrity unexpectedly get butt naked on screen like that!
Imagine you're watching some romcom with Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts pops out totally naked! (Besides the horror that it is Julia Roberts naked...) That's crazy stuff!
The scene when she's naked is a bit terrifying since the guys are consumed in that substance. I didn't find it titillating but of course, I'm not insensitive to beauty and she is beautiful.
I'm a big fan of the director Jonathan Glazer, he's made three great films in Sexy Beast, Birth and Under The Skin. A Special talent.
This film blew my mind when I first saw it, just so eerie and disturbing (the child on the beach screaming for it's father, stays with you and the black room is still a freaky image), the soundtrack is one of the best of the last few years, and the thing with Scarlett been naked, she could have done that for a film that would have offered her more money to get her tits out but she decides to do it for a film that won't garner a massive audience and will slip by without much notice. And it did, I think many besides yourself have forgotten she got naked in this. I'm more surprised not no one noticed her while she chatted up guys and walked around Scottish Mall without much fuss.
See? I didn't even realize it was directed by Glazer. And I like him!
The nudity kinda absorbed all the hype.
But I have to say, I was not that impressed with the film, it could have been more interesting: it is what it is, and it's very well executed, it's clear they intended it low key like this.
It just didn't impress me much: ok so aliens come here and she tries to understand us.
Not very deep resonating to me.
I won't knock you for not liking the film. It's not for everyone really, it wasn't a film made to please the masses to be fair. Just going by it's rating on IMDB would tell you that. But I think it's a film that should be somewhere in the 8's on IMDB.
Doesn't she only show her breasts in the film, I haven't seen the film in ages. I always thought Scarlett was a tad overrated in the looks apartment. But as I said I admire her for getting naked for the first time on film in such a non commercial film she's ever done.
I watched it for scarlet johanson I wasn't aware of how much nudity she was gonna show other then people said she's hot. I was suprised at the level of nudity she showed. In general the film didn't really rosonate with me. It was too symbolic and ambiguous for the story telling I like.
I watched it because I had heard about it before hand on news sites and that it was based on a book. Upon doing some research I found the book was fairly well regarded so I read the book. Loved the book by the way, well written, very interesting, finished it in only a few days. I did hear about Scarlett being nude in the film before I saw it though (thanks to said news sites) but was intending to watch it anyway. So I would say the book caught my attention and is what attracted me to watching it, her nudity played no consideration into my decision. Was I surprised that I saw her nude, not really, it is a European film after all and they feature much more nudity than American films, at least in the films I have seen. What did surprise me was her doing such a small budget European film. As for the film, I felt it was incredibly boring and was very disappointed after looking forward to so much as I had thoroughly enjoyed the book.
She was actually the only reason I was hesitant to watch this movie. That said, she did an okay job, and I thought that the rest of the film was fantastic. Definitely an 8/10 for me.
