Under the Skin or Ex Machina?

I also posted this topic on the Ex Machina board. Two of the best science fiction films of the past decade. Which one is your favorite and why? Feel free to share thoughts, opinions, etc. I personally prefer Under the Skin, though again, both are excellent in their own right.

Haven't seen Ex Machina yet, but there's no way it could be worse than this dull wannabe piece of art.

While it kind of makes sense to make the comparison, as both films may have things in common superficially, they are essentially very different films.

I gave Under the Skin a higher rating, as it is masterfully done, with brilliant visual storytelling but made me VERY uncomfortable while watching (which was the intention, of course).

Ex Machina on the other hand is more of an entertainment movie with a fairly clever plot.

So I'd say Under the Skin is clearly the better film but in most circumstances, I'd rather watch Ex Machina.

I thought Ex Machina was terrible. I don't understand the love. It's a worn-out old plot told in a very dull fashion with very dull characters. Predictable and stupid, shockingly sexist and racist, the one thing it has going for it is that it looks good. I think I rated it about a three or so.

This, while it has its own problems (inchoate and often excessively lingering), did compel me. I cared about the character's journey and was curious about what made her tick. I'm not sure the two are really comparable, but I gave this a seven.

Under The Skin but i did really like Ex Machina.

I can't really choose.

Ex Machina was great for a sci-fi film. It was thrilling, TOTALLY unpredictable, the score was beautiful and haunting. The story was original and I'm really looking forward to rewatching it on Blu-Ray.

Under The Skin is an excellent movie in its own way. The score was brilliant and terrifying at the same time. And the fact that I had low expectations made it even better cause BOY I was just left speechless.

I would say that Under The Skin is better, although I love both

I liked this one better, though they're both pretty good.

Both really good, but Ex Machina is immensely more entertaining IMO, whereas Under the Skin is a better arthouse film.

They're both phenomenal films, so it depends what you're in the mood for.

I'd recommend Ex Machina for casual viewing.
