I dont see why people hate this so much...

Reminds me a lot of independence day. Whatever happening to not caring so much about science and how smart the aliens are, and just wanting to see them get blown up? I remember in ID people bitching about the aliens being dumb enough to leave a vulnerability like that in their ship when their capable of this and that, back then I just didn't care, cause it was a fun movie. Maybe i'm just easy to please, but it was a cool action movie on my book. Just don't over-think it..

reply

I have to concede right up front that the movie is extremely simplistic. Yet somehow it has enough going for it that I find myself watching. I file this one next to the likes of ID4, Transformers 2/3, The Day After Tomorrow, etc. Just your basic "check your razor-keen intellect at the door", effects-driven, action romp. Sometimes that's exactly what I'm in the mood for. Still, no movie is for every one so instead of wondering why others hate it I'll just continue on enjoying it.

I just watched this film on Sky and thought it was a great action film. i wasnt sure i would like it cuse i didnt like transformers films. I like the fact the aliens where tough but not invisible because if they didnt use the shield they wouldnt have survived very long.

There is absolutely no plot, no real conflict, no reasoning for, and no redeeming qualities. It's terribly shot. It's pandering to patriotism and heroism by pertaining to every single cliche imaginable. The characters we type casted and unrelatable. The film leaves gaping plot holes with an abrupt and predictable resolution. Everything about this movie is neither entertaining nor fun. I feel stupider having watched it out of novelty. It deserves every Razzie imaginable!

reply

what plot holes, yes the ending was predictable but its about how they got there. plus you kinda sound like u didnt watch it.

reply

Sounds like he actually did watch it. It's absolutely a blockbuster, popcorn movie with no real thought or care put into it. Some of the dialogue is just piss-poor, regardless of what kind of action movie it is. Some of it was just absolutely terrible.

It is an entertaining movie to just sit through and let your eyes watch, but it's full of unnecessary dialogue and scenes/sequences that begin or finish way too abruptly. It's like they were just trying to get to the next scene the entire movie and never really cared about how they transitioned.

One of my biggest plot holes (or perhaps just a gripe) is why the hell didn't they shoot down the force field generator at the beginning? I don't remember what they were shooting at the alien ships when it all broke out, but obviously they were doing something wrong because they went from being completely ineffective to being able to take out one of the biggest crafts with a WWII era boat. Hell, if you could do that with the Missouri, why didn't you launch several missiles at the generators so that your carrier group could send in jets? The whole movie is solved right there.

I'll repeat, it was definitely entertaining to watch and just enjoy all the explosions and such, but some of it was just too silly. That was my problem by the end of Transformers 3. 1 was great and 2 was fine but the 3rd movie was so over-the-top and silly that it took me out of the serious action happening all around them.

Well thats clearly nonsense. The fact they were able to craft any kind of story out of the game Battleship shows they put some kind of care into it.

Such as, you'll have no trouble providing examples?

I disagree again. This movie is damned no matter what it did, too short and too flippant and they would be accused of just phoning it in, take too much time over it and people would be slaughtering it for turning a simple premise into something far more convoluted than it needed to be.

The arrival of the alien ships kind of put pay to any early dealings with the shield generator. They opted to confine their attacks to the ships attacking them, not something that to all intents and purposes, wasn't firing anything at them.

Transformers Revenge of the Fallen was anything but fine!

The "no plot" criticism is often aimed at movies with a simple plot.

This is stupid.

I agree with Volcom_dude87, i didnt like the movie because it was too much going on... i guess you're right transformers the toy/cartoon wasn't about aliens, so i guess, but battleship was just really sh*tty. It was too long... i guess i have the attention span of a 3-year old because i saw it on bootleg, a good bootleg at that, and could not follow there plot... i could not understand why there was a muscular purple alien... i was just bored into confusion.... ergo he movie is still terrible... now that its shown on HBO on rotation i cant sit through 15 min of it with out dozing off...

Ok calm down, try not 2 have a kanye. Your being a real big kanye wit this tirade that you goin on.

"and could not follow there plot... i could not understand why there was a muscular purple alien... i was just bored into confusion"

This is the best comment I've heard all year. What is your ideal alien supposed to look like? Hahaha, I am still literally laughing out loud.

I didnt even realize the grammatical errors in the post... thanks for seeing my frustration in the movie...minus the crazy errors...

As said there is a remarkable resemblance to independence day, alien invasion has been done before, but you need a unique take on it or add something good to it. They didn't. This film just seems to take the independence day script and a pint of tippex, and write the words "boat" and sailor" and "sea" everywhere. And the aliens were really crap.

reply

Yet you've found the time to post your message on the Battleship board. Funny that.

reply

Actually while some of that may be true it is an entertaining movie.

reply

At the risk of starting an argument, what's wrong with patriotism and heroism?

reply

"what's wrong with patriotism and heroism?"

There's nothing wrong when it's done tastefully ... but here it was done in a corny and laughable manner in an awful movie.

USA! USA! USA! RAH! RAH! RAH! WE ARE THE BEST!!! OUR POOP SMELLS LIKE ROSES!!! ... look up the definition of the word PANDERING.

reply

Hi i think this film has been unfairly panned,ok its simplistic but the action keeps moving from when the alien craft is first spotted in the sea right through to the end, prior to that is drivel.
Liam Neesons role as a cameo is just that a name to maybe get the punters in.I feel the aliens with all their superior fire power where a very stupid in its use and to be swatted by the missouri laughable ,however i found it entertaining .

reply

Because the movie just plain suc@s.
Bad acting, impossible human acrobatics, implausible events, an obvious lack of the workings of the military and so on.

This is a movie geared to a generation of youth who are not smart enough to know they were fleeced at the theater. I watched it for free and then only 15 minutes of it.

reply

"then only 15 minutes of it."

then you missed all the fun.

the film may have been stupid but it was a lark to watch. reminds me of the 50's era invasion films from Japan.

Regardless of whether he saw the entire movie or not I will say his summation is 100% correct. lol

You like *insert random movie here* so you are stupid.

So bored of foolishness like this.

Someone might know a plot is predictable and maybe not even like the acting but still love the effects or something in a movie.

Try criticise things a little more objectively, without painting an entire audience as beneath you.

You just sound like a pompous ass instead of getting across your opinions on the movie.

reply

I agree! I just saw it on HBO for the first time and loved it! Lots of fun, very gripping. I loved that they used the Battleship Missouri.

reply

It is honestly fun to watch if you get drunk with your friends and watch it to make fun of it like other really bad movies.
