I dont see why people hate this so much...

Reminds me a lot of independence day. Whatever happening to not caring so much about science and how smart the aliens are, and just wanting to see them get blown up? I remember in ID people bitching about the aliens being dumb enough to leave a vulnerability like that in their ship when their capable of this and that, back then I just didn't care, cause it was a fun movie. Maybe i'm just easy to please, but it was a cool action movie on my book. Just don't over-think it..

It was silly with all kinds of cliches, but I agree. Nothing wrong with cheering for action and easy ethics.

I didn't mind the film. it's a bit predicable, but no more corny than 'Under Siege' (which i think is a better comparison than ID4).

Just like uploading a virus to the mothership in ID is not ridiculous? LOL

It might be a 'sin', but there wasn't much anti-virus stuff on Macintosh for many years, since virus' were never aimed at the system. If you don't have people hacking your system, you probably don't need uber-security.

well does who like it are retarded, those who hate it are smart.

so you think anyone who doesn't agree with you is retarded. Not very PC. In fact, it's quite insulting. I'll bet you like Star Trek 2009.

It’s ridiculous to critique a movie with the argument 'it's not real, so it doesn't matter'

Yes...I completely agree. I think there was few things which were going against the movie;

1. Rihanna - Some how if she is in the movie people already considered it to be dumb, but, even though not being a fan of hers, I did not find her as a distraction.
2. Haters - Since movie changed the format of video game it was evolved from, it was completely pulled down even before it was released.
3. Critics - Let's face it, they were never going to love it at all. Critics don't want even hard alien/action movies to be fun. To them each alien movie should be at least District 13.

I found movie to be fun and protagonist to be charming and some good action set pieces.

I love this film, and not in a 'so bad its good' way..its a decent, action packed popcorn film. I bought it on Blu-ray and watched it again...didn't regret the decision.

You know what my yardstick of a 'bad' film is? If I walk out feeling like I just lost three hours of my life I will never get back. The Dark Knight Rises, the Second & Third Matrix Films, Jay & Silent Bob Strike back....I'm not picky nor a snob, I just have this yardstick in my head....if you hit it, I consider you a 'bad' film.

Battleship is NOT a 'bad' film.

I enjoy it....I enjoy the acting, I enjoy the visuals, the special effects, The story... even the cheesy Jerry Bruckheier-esque patriotism on the USS Missouri... this film promese to deliver a summertime popcorn & burgers fun filled time, and thats exactly what it delivers. It has an honored place in my Blu-ray collection.

Fun sucks, movies must be perfect.

*insert nonsensical post about lack of plot in a simple movie and whine about acting in a movie that doesn't require it*

I think a lot of people have forgotten how to enjoy themselves and take things less seriously.
