E1 now, starts off very slow.
shareYes.
But it takes a while to unravel and be really special and different.
Watched three episodes and it's not bad so far, although I don't like how the woman sent back to protect the family from the terminator is able to go toe to toe against the terminator. There's a bit at the end of episode 3 where the terminator and the woman are in a grapple and the terminator lands several punches onto her back. I thought terminators had superhuman strength? After taking several punches from the terminator she shoots it in the leg and is able to push it down an elevator shaft.
Unless they explain later on that the woman is also a terminator it's a bit much that she's basically got this superhuman strength as well, really sucks all the tension out of it and undermines the terminator as an unstoppable threat.
Six episodes in right now and can honestly say that it's pissing me off. It needlessly convolutes the mythology by adding a new AI creation to the mix, but without actually changing the stakes much. It turns the Terminators into complete jokes with how they can't seem to ever land a shot at point blank range, and the pacing is so ridiculously dragged out and slow (there was one episode where it literally felt as though nothing of importance happened).
I haven't been able to find a single character I've been able to latch onto much, and the show's attempts at philosophical themes honestly struck me as little more than cliche and hollow (humans are bad, we deserve to die blah blah blah). Also, the show has virtually nothing to do with the films aside from the presence of the one Terminator character.
I'm not saying we need to have a complete retread of the John/Sarah storyline again, but it bothers me how this show seems to be using the Terminator name for marquee value only. This honestly didn't even need to be a Terminator show, as it could easily be rewritten to just be its own thing with no ties to the films. Hell, with just a few tweaks, you probably could've made this into a Matrix anime and have everything remain the same.
At the end of the day, it's just another shitty, uninspired cash-in on the Terminator franchise that has no reason to exist (basically, like everything that's come after T2). I'd say skip it.
Also just finished episode 6 and I’m done with this shit, so boring and slow and just feels completely removed from the first two films that it might as well be something else entirely.
Honestly part of me thinks they should just leave well enough alone now but another part of me thinks that a live action series set in the future war with Skynet would be fantastic. Big budget, make it look like the future depicted in the Cameron films and just make a cool sci-fi war series.
Yeah, you're not missing much. I finished the series last week and it does not get better.
shareNo, not even close - it's pretty damn far from good. Slow and boring is more accurate.
shareI GENERALLY SKIP TOONS....THOUGHT I WOULD CHECK THIS OUT....I SHOULD HAVE SKIPPED IT.
