So does anyone here like Damon

I just got done reading the ridiculous PC thread of Damon being so "terrible" I have to wonder are there any Damon fans like myself on these boards???

I'm a fan of Mr. Damon Salvatore, vampire extraordinaire. He is the whirling dervish at the center of this series. He has been such a fun ride, with all his complexities and surface cool. His journey has been controversial and thought-provoking. At the end of the day, he is not a puppy and he is not a man - he is a vampire. That is the springboard from which I see him. A beautiful creature fighting his DNA.

I love Damon! I love Stefan to when the show isn't waxing poetically about how "good" he is. I like my vampires to have an edge. I want them to play fast and loose with the concept of morality.

Vampires have and will always be my favourite literary and film monsters because they are the monster that you don't suspect until it's too late. Their the monster with the most firm foot in reality. Werewolves are only dangerous once a month, ghosts are extremely limited in what they can do, and if you die by zombie you deserved it. Vampires are basically serial killers with a supernatural twist and that is what makes them terrifying. Moral struggles can make it interesting but in the end I still want to see them behaving like vampires and that means someone's gotta die.

But, everyones different and not everyone views the show through that lense.

Its something you'll get used to a mental mind *beep* can be nice!

He's my favorite.

I'm pretty sure you're not using PC right. Damon is Damon, but make no mistake he is terrible, he is a mass murdering, serial killing, hateful creature of Darkness. If that is PC to call that terrible, than PC shouldn't exist. I have favorite villains, but again they are villains, they are horrible characters, that do horrible things, usually for no reason whatsoever. The same thing goes for the originals, interesting plot points, but make no mistake they are still Monsters. Beautiful creatures, but horrible instruments of Death and Despair. They are literally evil. Stefan, Enzo, the list goes on. They rip out people's hearts, decapitate them, dismember them and put their body parts back together, and compel them to do horrible things, because they are bored, or their feelings are hurt, or it's a Wednesday. They are the very definition of terrible, these things that they do are not ideal and serve no purpose except for themselves, they cause death and destruction everywhere they go, I can never slight someone or try to dismiss it as PC if they say that Damon is a Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad thing. As an evil character, I like him, but he is evil. It's like with Elena, I don't really care if you get to be with her or are sad about it, because all those people you murdered and screwed over probably had a love one too, that you didn't give a rats behind about.

You are an idiot. Yes it is PC to hate on Damon for him being a vampire and showing vampire characteristics. Some ppl sadly can't help but apply uptight PC politics to fictional shows especially of vampires of all things lol. Look we don't hate on crocodiles and bears even though they would kill us in a moments notice because that is their nature. It's a vampire nature to kill to survive. We would all do it too if we were vampires. That's besides the point though my main issue is if people are that bugged of Damon doing vampire things why even watch the show? There are millions of terrible PC shows on the CW one could choose from. Why watch a vampire show if you bugs you to see vampires doing vampire things? I hate superhero shows so you don't see me going to the board for Arrow and bashing the show I just simply don't watch it.

Damon kinda sorta killed hundreds of people, so yeah, he's pretty terrible. And so are most of the show's characters. Damon is just the only one so extensively portrayed in the heartwrenching light of a bad boy turning good because of love (while still occasionally killing plenty of folks)

It's a funny thing how YA films, series and books manage to trivialize death to an extent unreachable for more mature productions (unless they specifically aim for that)

All vampires on this show have killed even the put on a pedestal Caroline and Elena. Once again its in vampire nature to kill to survive. Still Damon isn't inherently bad he is morally grey like most ppl on this show and in the real world.

The reason I liked Damon at first and stopped liking him later is because he used to be open about being a bad guy and when the writers tried to make him "good" it became very phony and dumb. That's also the reason I disliked most other characters and eventually dropped the show altogether.

I go back and forth on Damon. Sometimes they overkill the "I don't care, I'm so cool" routine.

After all these years, I've finally narrowed it down to: I don't like Damon when he's in Elena's orbit or thinking of Elena. I know he's "lovesick", but he comes off as completely pathetic. The other characters don't come off as weak as he does when he's in "love". I don't know if it's the writing or the acting, but it's not endearing or sympathetic.

The only time his "lovesick" routine worked was with Katherine - now that was powerful!

I totally agree. Love Damon when he is not around or obsessing over Elena. It does make him seem pathetic and it takes away from the bad boy thing.

He's the most popular character on the show by far but these boards are insanely annoying about him that Damon fans have just left (same with all the Delena fans). I love him! I only come here occasionally now though.
