Best villain?

Been a fan since the start. Season 1-3 were the best in my opinion, but I have enjoyed it all.
One of the issues I do have with the show though is the consistency of a good bad guy. They seemed to either use them to set up another big bad, kill them off too quickly or have them redeem themselves.
So who do you guys think was/is the best villain of the show from the beginning?
I would have to go with Klaus, when he was first introduced followed closely by Mikael. He was ruthless, almost impossible to kill and unpredictable. Not to mention acted brilliantly by Morgan.
So who has been your favourite?

By far, Kai. Kai salvaged season 6. He was a TERRIFIC villain because they didn't give him some watered down personality in an attempt to humanize or redeem him. He was a sociopath who stayed a sociopath. He wasn't romantically paired w some good character and then retconned a backstory to make him vulnerable and part of the "bad boy w a heart of gold" trope.

Kai was the best villain played by a great actor. It was the first time a character made me consistently laugh. He also had good chemistry with everyone, especially Nina and Kat and even Ian.

Now my favorite character is always going to be Katherine but she's not purely a villain because of how stupidly inconsistent the show got. But Katherine and Elijah s2/3 were my favorite part time villains/antagonists.

Kai, for sure. The dude was ruthless and he enjoyed it so much.

Yeah, I did enjoy Kai and was annoyed when they killed him off so soon. It would have made more sense to me if they Kept him as the main villain for season 7 rather than have to introduce and build up a new one.

I also thought at some point in The Vampire Diaries (after the spinoff came out) they should have had one of the Originals as the main bad, Kai or Finn perhaps. They wouldnt have had to waste time building up a new villain and being an original they would be more or less Invincible.
