Why is rape consider worse than murder?

Don't get why rape got two threads yet, Damon has done so much worse, like murder.

Both are bad.
But I think rape is worse because of the after math of it and the psychological hell the victims and those close to them go through possibly for a life time and there is absolutely no reason for rape to ever be justified hence "no means no". However murder sometimes can be justified like in a self-defense case or ridding a society from a proven evil person or accident of course. And in all those cases the victims die so they don't have to suffer after the crime anymore, sure their loved ones grieve them but everyone moves on eventually. Unlike rape victims. Also sometimes people get willingly into situations that are risky and dangerous while holding within them the possibility of death so close. But no one ever wants or willingly goes to a situation where they know they might get raped at.

Again, both are bad and I don't even think we should compare them.

Sometimes it's worse, sometimes it's not, depending on how the rape or murder happened. But that's not why people are more upset over the rape; it's because there are so many who deny what happened to Caroline and Andie and will even go as far as to slut-shame these women (like their idol Elena did) and blame them for the awful things that happened to them. I remember how much hatred Caroline was getting for realistically hating her rapist.

Because no one has to live with the memory of being murdered.

Death is a natural, inevitable part of life (regardless of how you get there). Rape is not a thing that should ever have to happen to anyone, there isn't anything natural about it (rape is not sex, please don't make that argument, it'll only reveal you as a rape apologist). Plus, there are relatable human emotions that could lead almost any person to kill - anger, fear, desire to protect others, all natural emotions that almost every person will experience at one point or another in their lives, if not to the extreme necessary for actual murder. I would hope that most people wouldn't ever feel anything that would lead them to believe they were entitled to force non-consensual sexual contact on someone. Most people understand torturing someone is worse/more monstrous than killing them, rape is no different than torture, except you're using your actual body to inflict pain on someone else's, which is disgusting on a level that I would hope most people would find abhorrent.

I fart in your general direction... now go away or I shall taunt you a second time.

This is why many psychologists advice to not resist rape.

Much less scars that way.

There is not one psychologist that would advise someone not to resist a rape if they intend to keep their license. What a weird-ass post.

I feel like I just needed to add this coz I didn't see anyone else write it - the answer is: vampires. Vampires killing their food can't really be considered murder. Otherwise, shut down the slaughterhouses. But rape is not even remotely unnecessary to a vampire's survival.

Every single person on this planet has the capacity to murder. Even if we don't, or feel we're too chicken to go through with it, we can comprehend how someone could take someone else's life in a fit of rage or revenge. Rape takes a special, twisted mindset that most people cannot understand and are revolted by. You gotta be a pretty *beep* up person to rape somebody.

And yes, rape isn't "Death", but for a lot of people it is a murdering of who they are or who they could become. Most rape victims are completely altered as human beings and spend years (or even the rest of their lives) shaken, afraid, bitter, unable to accept love and intimacy. It's an obliteration of their soul. It's an emotional scar that doesn't quite heal, and worst of all is the law doesn't punish the rapists harshly. Or at all.

Parents are always going to say they'd rather their child were raped over murdered, but for the victim it's a much different story. A lot of rape victims feel like they're already dead.
