Budgets for those films:

MoS: 225
BvS: 250 (some reports says 400+)
SS: 175 (100% guaranteed it is higher with the re-shoots).

Total: 650-850 (more likely the latter)

IM: 140
TIH: 150
IM2: 200

Total: 490

So yeah, using a more balanced comparison, plus the fact these movies were not as established as they are now, duh. Plus, neither total includes marketing, which is much more for DC.

Not only that, the MCU averaged 458 million BEFORE The Avengers and then 993 AFTER. Like, wow, the whole world changed after that film. It's unfair to judge those first 3 MCU films.

The average moviegoer doesn't even know the difference between Marvel and DC. The only reason the DCEU is doing good is because of the MCU.

Things not taken into account:
-Inflation
-Recognizable characters
-The change in spread of information between 2008 and 2016

reply

This comparison is stupid and totally unfair. The only people who seem to do it are desperate DCtards trying to make DCEU look successful

The comic book genre was on its knees until Nolan came in with his Batman trilogy to reinvigorate the genre as a whole. Iron man can be categorized as a sleeper hit due to having casted such a troubled actor, portraying a b-list superhero and apparently having little to no script(it was still being written as it was being filmed according to the "Dude"). The Incredible Hulk had to play off against its predecessor of a box office bomb and it wasn't generally known that it was going to be connected to a bigger universe.
