Batman cinematically is a horrible place right now.

I know so many people are going to disagree with me, but I don't like this new incarnation of Batman we now have to deal with for the next 2 decades or so.

I love Batman. I've seen every movie in the theater since 89 when I was 1. I have tons of Batman comics I've collected since the early 90s.

Batman's biggest appeal is that he doesn't have superpowers. And neither do most of his villains: they're common street thugs, who either dress up as something, suffer from a physical or mental condition, have a skin disease, or went through an accident of some kind. None, at least originally, are extraterrestrial original or born with superhuman abilities or capable of dark magic.

Now we have a Batman in a world with the "Enchantress." Come on. None of this is subtle at all. I'm not opposed to more fantasy elements of Batman, even Batman (89) and Batman Returns had elements of fantasy, but not to the extent of aliens or witches.

Batman is now stuck in a universe of pure fantasy, At this point, he may as well get bitten by a bat and get bat-like powers. What's stopping that from happening? No logic in this universe. Batman solo films will never be the same again, they will not be on the level of The Dark Knight or even Batman 89 focused on street level crime in urban decay, but more fantastic with aliens and superpowered villains and what not.

Make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.

At least the suit's been modified since BvS.

All for a box of chocolates...

That's a dang safe bet.

WB starting their film universe with 'Batman v Superman' was so idiotic. They needed a Batman intro movie before they started piling on the characters. The characterization of him in BvS was all over the place, and the movie couldn't focus on him long enough because it was too busy cramming 11,000 other characters and plotlines down our throat. And Justice League will probably be more of the same. I'm curious to how they're going to fix it, because I thought BvS and Suicide Squad were both terrible.

Why does everybody seem to always quote The Killing Joke & Year One as the "ultimate" Batman stories?... the character has been in print for 75 plus years people, there are far superior stories written than those.

The Killing Joke is so overrated. I know it's supposed to be the definitive Batman/Joker story but it also almost ruined Barbara Gordon.

I am sorry, but this "Batman has no superpowers" thing is simply bullsh!t.
Just because he can't move planets it doesn't mean he doesn't have superpowers. The man has mastered over a hundred martial arts, knows everything about technology and is a master investigator. Not to mention other things - like being an incredible businessman, an escape artist and so on... (Oops, I mentioned them.) NO human being can achieve that, it is simply impossible.

So, James Bond is a superhero as well? Or do you think that it is plausible that he has all the skills that he has?

reply

No, I don't think Bond is plausible at all, but I fail to see what that has to do with anything, to be honest.
And while Bond is not plausible at all, he is still not nearly as overpowered as Batman is.

I don't think Nolan's Batman was remotely "superpowered". He seemed to struggle, there were scenes that showed his injuries and battle scars. He lost fights. He definitely came across as human.

The DCEU is in a bad place right now, period. Like the books they re based on.

Is Enchantress anymore more "out there" than Mr. Freeze and Poison Ivy?

Mad Max: Fury Road > Every Other Action Film

I think Mr. Freeze and Poison Ivy can both be "realized."

They'd work as Nolan villains with a few tweaks. After all, Bane worked.

In fact Gotham did a good job at Mr. Freeze. Mr Freeze would be a man who wears a device to keep his heart under a certain temperature.

Poison Ivy doesn't have to have powers, just be a lady with an obsession to plants. Or have been born to be biologically immune to poisonous plants - so she's able to wear them around her body, poisoning others.
