Pretty sure everyone's in agreement with the Joker portrayals:

Glad the movies and characters have been improved over the years. Nothing can top Heath but Jared is miles better than the Jokers of old. ξ§
Ledger didn't really play the Joker. He was more of a conventional terrorist with a bizarre gimmick. He did a good job in the role, but he was the Joker in name only.
Leto was somewhat more like the Joker of the comics, but I didn't care for the look and found the portrayal only passable.
Jack Nicholson was, I felt, the best Joker on the big screen. He was charismatic, deranged, flamboyant, and unpredictable and had the trappings associated with the comic Joker.
Requiescat in pace, Krystle Papile. I'll always miss you. Justice was finally served.

100 percent agree. Heather Ledgers was absolutely great. But in my opinion he wasn't all that true to the comic book character or the cartoon. It was like they took the character and took all the cartoon out of it and made him into a believable dynamic villain who was actually terrifying. And I loved that! I think thats the point of an adaptation of a character. Leto's joker seemed like it was literally taken off the page with all the cartoon but given a different wardrobe and scenes and lines that dont actually have a lot of joker in them. In other words the writers and the designers screwed up. Or they were trying to do something different because who the hell wants the same got damn joker in every movie franchise. That defeats the purpose of making new ones. I think Leto did an amazing job with what he was given. He was given a different joker to play and he played it. People wanted menacing! They wanted terror when he walked in but i've never felt any type of terror watching the cartoon or reading the comic. It was all just over the top ridiculousness and Leto played that well. Hes a talented actor and always has been. I think its hard to separate bad acting with a botched character in general. Jack Nicholsons was forgettable at best.

I'm not going to rate any Joker because each one of them brought something different to the table.
My heart still beats for a cartoon character and also for a Joker that I saw in the trailers but eventually I didn't have the chance to meet him well because most of his scenes were cut and screwed up in the editing room.
Jack Nicholson is still the seminal joker for a lot of people. He brought an oscar winning actor to the role, and made it "respectable".
So yeah leto hasn't proved anything yet, a couple of scenes on a so/so movie dosen't cut it.
It's like saying Tom Holland is the best spider-man when he only appeared in two scenes in Civil War.
Most i can say about Leto is he has got potential.
