Did they allude as to why his apartment was on the 2nd floor? I wonder how difficult it would have been for an ambulance get him to a hospital.
Also when was the last time he left the apartment? And down the stairs no less.

I thought it was a house with a front porch and 2 or 3 steps up to the porch. The delivery driver would leave the food outside his front door on the porch.
