Can't believe how good this was

It's a Jane Austen story with zombies in it. Literally. You'd say DUH. Check it out. The humor comes from contrast. Not one liners, not gore. Contrast between the Austen's story (taken REALLY seriously) and the zombie issue (which by the way is marvelously integrated). Give it a shot. It's a beautiful love story. With zombies.

Exactly! My husband dragged me to see this in theatres, and I enjoyed much more than I expected to.

It is a horrible piece of crap. :)

I enjoyed the film (even though I dislike the book, and just re-read Jane Austen's original). I'm sure how much you enjoy it is a function of your expectations, your literary experience and leanings, and your mood on the day.

I loved it. I now own the blu-ray!

Me too. So much to the point where I fast forwarded a good bit of it. Basically, the only parts I watched were any scenes that involved Douglas Booth's character.

I went in expecting a chuckle and was actually shocked at how good the film was, especially in staying true to the novel. What I found made the movie so enjoyable, was the fact the zombie addition didn't feel forced. This is somewhat unbelievable, when considering how well regarded and famous the novel is. I must admit, I'd only heard of Dance and Headey going in, but the acting was stellar and I can't imagine anyone, but Lily James in the role of Elizabeth. I just read the dozen or so names that were offered the role, but she nailed it. Very well done. With Zombies!!!

reply

Indeed. I expected far worse.

I was surprised, too! I didn't expect this movie to be very good. Thought it would be too campy, but it came out nicely done. I even liked all the actors cast in their respective parts. I get a little picky when it comes to Mr. Darcy and Mr. Bingley, but they were cast well, as were Lizzy and Jane.

Can't compare it to the book it's based on, but this movie is good enough to own on Blu ray.

I expected something bordering on camp, but it was played straight (and surprisingly respectful of the source material) - and it was very well done. It's not a great movie, but it is pretty good and a fascinating take on a classic.
