S1E5 - Mando S2.5? Best Episode So Far

God, I don't know how to describe this episode. Like live-action Knights of the Old Republic RPG story telling rich deep in SW lore, I just love it. Pick a quest, head to destination, grab loot and quest item, hand in quest item, get reward, visit guild, visit armorer, forge or upgrade armor, and hear backstory of the Darksaber. Loved the effects of the slicing from the Darksaber as well. From dismembering body parts to searing the surroundings around it.

Hearing the backstory of the fall of Mandalore via mass Tie-Bomber bombardments during the Mando Civil War, and how a group of Mandalorians once ran crusades against the Old Republic which brought in the Jedi Order that defended them during the fall of the Old Republic, will play a huge role with more exposition from the Obi-Wan Kenobi series I bet. The Sith will play a role as well.

Seeing the Halo ring (what place is this called?) reminded me of the game itself (not related to SW of course). The cityscape was just a beauty to behold.

I guess the next best thing to a Grogu would be a cute little Rodian girl (definitely a girl). Wonder what Din Djarin got fordged for the little foundling. Seems to be Beskar chain-mail armor or something.

When Peli Motto peeled off the coverings of that N-1 Naboo Starfighter, I thought it was a pod racer at first. Just seeing that High Republic glory brought back to life felt so majestic in itself with all the restoration work put in topped off with a chrome finish. Even test flew through the old pod racing course from Phantom Menace (Anakin) and New Hope (Luke and Biggs T-16 Skyhopper) at Beggar's Canyon. I'm guessing Grogu will be sitting at the back where the droid port used to be.

I have a BIG problem with that ship: it's too small.

He is a bounty hunter ffs, where will he store the prisoners that need to be delivered to the employers???

Plus: no accommodations? Not even a shitter? So you cannot be in space in that ship more than few hours ...

reply

I'm wondering about that too but if Luke could go to Dagobah, which we were to believe was a fairly remote location in an X-Wing, I guess distance isn't a problem.

Now I wonder how he's going to solve the other problems...

reply

Didn't they show Mando flying for days in the other show??

reply

Hey, maybe this sleek shiny buggy is faster.

Star Wars got to the point where time and distance are purely related to narrative flow even quicker than Star Trek, which still claims there is some actual consistent speed of warp drive, but really should just give up.

reply

I never liked Naboo starfighters very much anyway. They never fit my idea of SW aesthetic.

reply

Yeah... For Outer Rim or distanced traveling he'll need a bigger ship that isn't a patrol craft and more a gunship like the Razor Crest where he can stash his gear, bounties, and hold cargo. I am sure there will be an explanation or swap down the line in either the next couple of Bobba episodes or in Season 3 of The Mandalorian. Too early to judge him now on his new found ship.

reply

I wonder if his starfighter won't dock in a bigger ship for storage and prisoners, which will form as his space ship. Maybe a possibility.

reply

Agreed it was a pretty good episode... but Peli Motto's dialogue is a little too.... Earthy? I know we're not supposed to nitpick all of that but that was really a lot "another galaxy far, far away... in the future to boot". Still, the Naboo starfighter was awesome. Who'd have thought that the PR director of Jurassic World could direct so well.

It did feel like KOROR at times. Not sure why, but it did. Him walking around around was very reminiscent of that game. It was like I had little missions and objectives.

I can't stand the prequels, but liked seeing the ship. Seems waaay too small for constant derp space travel, but it was neat.

That flashback to Mandalore was AWESOME.

They are an odd people though. The whole fight each other for power thi g is a little counter productive, but they are fascinating to watch.

Little backstory: When you see the Tie-Bombers bombing away at Mandalore, you'll notice a large dome that exploded near the end. Those were space domes after Mandalore's previous battles with the Jedi Order that left the planet scorched and inhospitable. Back then, Mandalorians where were more a warrior (Klingon-like) civilization that just liked attacking things hence the crusades (Templars).

Just seeing all this lore here I know that Obi-Wan Kenobi series is going to be lit.

I've played both games, but it's been a while.

I remember them generally being terrible people. They fought just to see if they could win. Canderous was always a part of my party because he could fight, but I didn't exactly like him.

I often wonder what the current ideals of the Mandalorians are. They seem to have slightly more ethics, but I wonder if that's only because of their fewer numbers? They'll also challange one another at the drop of a hat if it means a power grab.

I'm hearing rumors of a secret fight between Obi Wan and Vader. That doesn't make me happy. They did NOT fight between ROTS and ANH.

Best episode of the season and it doesn't feature your main character, says a lot about the show.
Mando comes back and immediately shows how it's done.
Pity they then ruin it by giving him an inappropriate ship. But it's compact and will sell enough toys I guess.
8/10

I don't think he is catching bounties anytime soon.

reply

Could be, I suppose he can just throw them in the trunk and Carbonite them.

reply

Tell me this, Rorikon:

Was Boba Fett in this episode AT ALL?

reply

Episodes without Boba Fett are bound to be the best since Mando is the new fan favorite.

reply

LOL! The best TBBF episide was a Mandalorian episode. Says a lot...

The concept artwork for the meat plant looked much better than what we got in the actual episode. Looked way too much like just some meat plant on Earth. Even had the same plastic sheeting. Other than that, a very well done episode.
