I Thought It Was Funny

I actually really enjoyed this movie so I was surprised by all the negative reviews. You guys need to loosen up and try to find the positive side in things. I love comedy though. The movie has to be really bad for me not to find something good about it, but I know the majority of people don't think like me and each are entitled to their own opinion. I really liked the characters in this movie and thought the drug dealers was pretty funny how he was hardcore, yet affectionate towards his friends lol.

I also liked it, nothing great but a fun comedy. and the kids where interesting.

The celebrity obsessed pre-teen was funny , the rest of them were dire & painful.
I'm amazed an organisation as tight as*ed and prudish as the MPAA didn't have something to say about exposing young kids to the kind of sleazy source material they had to endure in this so called comedy.

Very good movie and funny...the best part when spanish kid pissed on jew party and than jews fall down very nice.

I thought it was hilarious as well. It at least deserves to be at a 6/10

I popped it in to get a quick sneak peak before heading out for the day and found it to be boring as *beep* and cheesy.

Later on that night I re-watched it with some friends over and actually found myself to be cracking up during a few of the parts, so I feel it's a better movie when watched with company because of the ridiculousness of some parts. Take that for what it's worth.

Honestly, when I saw the previews for this movie in the theater, I was so upset because of the whole it being a remake of Adventures in Babysitting, and I love that movie. However, it's on On Demand, and last weekend my mom was like "Let's watch this movie," and I wasn't really in the mood to argue so I just agreed. I actually enjoyed this movie very much and was surprised since again, I'm totally in love with Adventures in Babysitting. All in all, I thought it was a great and funny movie.

Same here! Really wanted to see this since it came out, but never got the chance. Then got slightly off-putted by so many negative reviews... just watched it last night and really enjoyed it! Lots of fun, funny dialogue, not at all boring... just a mindless, fun film. Don't know what everyone else is talking about. Not every movie is trying to win an Oscar.

It was much better than I expected, entertaining flick.

I watched this movie last night not expecting much and I was very surprised. This movie had many funny moments and that little girl stole the show. Also Sam Rockwell was awesome as always.

I know, she's like a crack-whore without the dignity.

I also enjoyed it. Actually I loved it (gave it an 8). It definitely delivers what I expected it to deliver, which was a dark and dirty adult comedy. The only way you can't enjoy this is by taking it too seriously (and being way too sensitive to isms, I guess). Sure, the characters wouldn't find their way in a Godfather script, but once again, they never would want to be in one in the first place. There are many unforgettable, overly funny scenes in this one, so go get it!

I agree 100%. I feel like some people take comedies too seriously. It's meant to be ridiculous to get a laugh out of you. I loved how the drug dealer was hardcore but yet you could tell he really valued their friendship haha. I guess it all depends on what your perception of funny is.

Oh yes, Sam Rockwell was awesome as always, one of the funniest insane weirdo performances in a long time!

Gave it an 8? How in the world do you rate films? While I agree that, if you don't take the movie seriously (i.e. lighten up), it might seem funnier....I fail to see how that catapults it up to anything above a 5. This is why the rating system is essentially pointless, because people don't think about what makes a movie good or bad. The story, writing, acting, directing, cohesion...there's a lot to a film.

This film lacked in a lot of areas...a lot. It had a few moments, but overall was pretty poorly done. I gave the film a 4, and only because of Rockwell's character. It deserved a 3.

I rate movies in their own category, so for example if a movie wants to be pointless, for shallow entertainment purposes only, and wickedly funny, I don't pay too much attention to acting and directing, but more so to the jokes themselves. A well directed comedy with great actors is useless to me if it doesn't make me laugh (see my review of "Flirting with Disaster"). So yes, an 8 is probably too much, it's more a 7-8 for me, but I'm a big fan of Jonah Hill, so what the heck... ;-)

Ignore the person that respoonded, most comedy movies will have something you ban knitpick at. With that said i was extremely shocked that this movie got a 5.6 overall. The jokes were entertaining, the characters where funny especially all the kids (except the gay one)/ sam rocwell's character/ and jonah's character, and was a good movie. I would rate it an 8 as well, we cant judge allmovies as if they are oscar nominee's and just take it for what it is and thats a comedy that will get you to laugh with some over the top jokes.

Pardon the overly blunt and generalizing commentary in my previous post. I totally understand how some would rate based on a film's category. I've found myself doing the same from time to time, although I try to keep in mind that this site does NOT do categorical ratings. As such, I think it ends up misleading people due to skewed results (I guess some people wouldn't care lol). E.g., consider a movie that virtually noone knows, because it's more or less a cult classic (like Evil Dead 2 or Buckaroo Bonzai). The only people who watch it and bother to write a review/rate are already fans (or the converse). Thus, ratings become skewed.

It would be nice if IMDb would enhance the rating system with breakdowns (acting, cinematography, etc.) as well as categorizations. To me, at least, this website is THE place to learn about movies...so I think it would be worth it.

I also enjoyed this movie. I went into it not expecting much, but thought it had some really funny moments and was entertaining overall. Not the best movie ever by any means, but worth the watch

reply

This was way way funnier than expected. A comedy's main objective is to make you laugh and this film succeeded. People trying to find all these other flaws in the film have missed the main point.

Well said!

I liked it too a lot, it was funny and it had a message, those characters felt real, very human, not chartoon like (like in other films, that people seem to like more). I don't get why people bash it so much... well, actually I get it, most people here is quite snobbish, but yes, it was good!
