It's ok

The premise sounded really interesting, and just finished the film now.
Mixed feelings on this one.

J.D.'s explanation at the start to Levi was really interesting to listen to.
The build-up to what was in the Gorge was superb. Whenever you saw what came out, it was fascinating to watch.

However, the reveal as to why what happened was dissapointing. They could've come up with something more imaginative. It's really a very generic idea.

The Gorge itself looked really good, and very ominous, and in some cases fascinating. Scott Derrickson being the horror director that he is, did a good job of illustrating the horror elements.

Miles and Anya worked well together. Did not mind the romance at all. Sigourney Weaver also did a good job.

However, this is a one time watch.

I liked it quite a bit. It is a weird and silly mix of romance, scifi and horror, but somehow it works. It is a fun B movie. Visuals are really good and Miles Teller and Anya Taylor Joy were great.

I didn't really mind the reveal, I feel like pretty much everything they could have come up with would have been generic and silly.

Overall very entertaining. 7/10

for some reason i thought the hell metaphor would actually come into play.
like, east tower is Eve who breaks the rules and Adam follows her into the forbidden.

and then somehow we invite hell into our world.
anyway, fun movie.

reply

I would have preferred it if the gorge was indeed a gateway to hell

reply

The same. I expected it to be a broken part of the universe that opened a portal to another realm/ dimension. Stephen King has a "Thinny" in one of his books. It's a gorge full of a mist that can grab and kill people if they get too close. I definitely thought it was going in that direction.

TERRIBLE 1/10

It is what it is, entertaining and worth the watch.

reply

Agreed, it was ok. 6/10.

I was enjoying the score/music. Thought it was a bit quirky, which I like. Then right there in the credits: Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. The Movie Scoring Power Duo!!

reply

Instead of government conspiracy, the gorge should’ve been a spot where unknown primeval monsters dwell.

reply

Yup, instead they gave us Groots.

It was okay ...
Sometimes a bit too slow - the intense romance between these two felt a bit forced and dragged out too long and the ending was not very satisfying - one boom and every villain is dead? wow, much interesting.

reply

I agree. It was suspenseful until you find out what happened. Not sure what I was expecting, but it sure wasn't that.
