Suspiria was such a great film
anyway i think you got em all.. maybe a hint of Misery
Could you tell me what it plagiarized from Friday the 13th, Suspiria, Carrie & Bride of Frankenstein ?
Suspiria...is because of the red lighting during one or two scenes?
I disagree on Jaws. I've seen some people mention Alligator (1980) also but to me it was clearly Eaten Alive (1976), Tobe Hoopers first film post-The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. With TCM being arguably the biggest influence to the film that seems the most likely source.
Don't Fear the Reaper by Blue Oyster Cult played during the first kill scene. The song was used in Halloween (1978) and later Scream (1996). I thought this was a clear nod to Halloween.
Also the scene where Jenna Ortega's character tries to break out of the basement and gets her hand damaged was certainly a reference to the famous Here's Johnny scene in The Shining (1980).
The crane shot in Jaws where the guy on the dingy gets his leg severed by the shark and falls to the bottom of the ocean.
Also the two Sunday roast fisherman being chased by the shark but reaching the dock to safety just in time.
That's the first thing that came to my mind when we saw the alligator crane shot.
The old lady’s garish face in the trucks headlights was right out of Carrie, when she was on the road and turned around in the headlights to flip and blow up the car
The old woman’s makeup reminded me of the Bride of Frankenstein but maybe that’s a stretch.
And the whole vibe with the music and unknown killer in the woods is Friday the 13th
I may be wrong with it being Suspiria, but any movie with eyeball penetrated through keyhole
Yeah they steal a bunch of scenes and people go "OOO BOY DAT WUZ GUD" Hollywood and it's fans fuckin suck
sharePlagiarized may be strong word for most of those references, but it definitely harkens back to a variety of sources. The eyeball scene, for example, reminded me a lot of a couple of Lucio Fulci films (one being Zombie). There's definitely a strong 70's slasher vibe, with a possible hint of Italian influence (e.g. Fulci, Argento, etc.) If we can use the word "plagiarized", it'd be Shyamalan's "The Visit". My takeaway impression was that "X" is basically a gorier version of that movie wrapped in a more retro setting, but I'm okay with that.
Just found this, actually: https://variety.com/2022/film/news/ti-west-x-porn-horror-film-1235207346/

Motel Hell
shareA few bits strongly reminded me of stuff from The Shining. (Breaking through a locked door with an axe, old lady sexualized in a creepy/disturbing way, etc.)
shareI'm not saying there is zero plagiarism in this movie but definitely not all those movies you listed. I think you are mixing up "plagiarism", "inspiration", and "homage".
