why so old and ugly?
Bloomkvist isn't even close to being handsome, erika is a grandma, and monica isnt sexy. I cant wait for the american version

shareI agree with the op, the book says Michael is sexy and I want to see that not some guy with a gut and who is dull in every respect. I know many middle-aged men who are attractive let alone. I lived in sweden for a short time and they have many good looking men there. My friend's dad is a pilot and he was hot and he was pushing 60!

I agree that Michael was ugly.
shareI cant remember specifically as its been a long time since I read the first book, but was Blomkvist's character not described as only being average physically but it was his attitude and demenour that gave him his "sexyness"? In that respect I though he was cast ok.
However like others I was surprised at Erica's appearance on film. Had pictured her to be younger looking and more attractive. Wasn't looking for a hollywood-style actress but did the book not state that she looked young for her years?
Did you really even read the novels? The ones you mention weren't exactly "young" characters. I thought Michael Nykvist and Lena Endre were perfect for their roles and a ton of chemistry along with that.
shareI know! Films like this must really affront the American sensibility as there's so little evidence of botox and plastic surgery. Nyqvist dying his greying hair black is one of the few evident physical artifices.
I for one find Nyqvist very handsome and his age makes him sexier.

I thought he was "handsome" also, and just right for the role he played. BTW he will be in the next Mission Impossible movie with you know who...
shareYes I know he's featuring in that! Why Nyqvist chose this as his first Hollywood/American outing, I don't know.

shareI actually agree with you here. Before I even read the book or saw any of the movies I thought why even remake it, the Swedish version is fine, then I actually read the book and saw the movies. The American version is much better and more faithful, IMO. Blomqvist is described as being a handsome ladies man, Berger is an attractive blond etc. The American version did very well with the casting, right down to Armansky, who is described as being attractive and middle aged Armenian, the actor playing him is Croatian and looks the part, i think. In this case, I definitely enjoyed the American version, so much, I don't even feel like viewing the other two Swedish movies
shareagreed. i found the guy who played blomkvist to be distractingly ugly and grossly out of shape. nothing like what he was described as in the books.
shareMonica jogging kind of gave me a boner. Those athletic legs and she had decent sized knockers
